Each Sunday, my wife and I cook and eat a meal together — intentionally. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing our experience here in this space. I want to see the growth that will come in our marriage because of this. I hope you enjoy our story. You can find last week’s post here.

Each year, Sarah and I like to make a big deal of our anniversary. You know why?

Because it’s a big deal!

It’s not even the time, necessarily (though every year living together brings new challenges and victories). To me, each anniversary is an opportunity to be reminded of the vows we made and the marriage we’re building — together. That’s a lot to celebrate.

This year, we talked about going away for the weekend, but it just never materialized. Instead, we decided to celebrate with a fancy dinner in our own backyard at Ruth’s Chris steakhouse in Granger, Indiana. If you’re ever in town, I highly recommend it!

We got all dressed up and hopped in the car for our fancy dinner. I couldn’t help but sneak an extra glance over at my beautiful wife. How blessed I am to be her husband!

Live a Little

When I was younger, my dad would say a certain phrase whenever I was considering something but either didn’t want to spend the money or chickened out in some other way.

Live a little.

I think it’s a good reminder. Our lives can easily fall into robotic routine if we aren’t careful. When it comes to something as important as a marriage, you need to find ways to break into that a bit.

Enter the steak.

I’m not talking your everyday average cuts either. Sarah had a filet, and I had a bone in filet. And we ordered them rare. Yeah, live a little.

Then came the desert — cheesecake and creme brûlée.

Needless to say, we had an incredible meal. Our server was fantastic, and they even had rose petals on our table to celebrate our anniversary. It was a wonderful night.

We had someone else cook for us this Sunday, but the moments were just as special.

Thanks for reading, friends! We appreciate you. Take time this week to celebrate the people that mean the most to you. Live a little with them! And remember, we wish you the best as you enjoy simple moments with those you love.
