Week 240: Savor the Spice

Each Sunday, my wife and I cook and eat a meal together — intentionally. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing our experience here in this space. I want to see the growth that will come in our marriage because of this. I hope you enjoy our story. You can find last week’s post here.

I used to hate jalapenos. The taste, the kick, the ensuing tears — none of it was for me. But, over the years, Sarah has found ways to sneak them into recipes that hasn’t bothered me much. She’ll cut out the seeds to lessen the kick. Little by little, I’ve learned to tolerate them…even like them.

But then this week’s recipe came, and I thought that journey might be tested.

Sarah likes to watch TikTok. I would give a derisive eye roll, but I must admit that I often get sucked into the videos too. So she found this recipe with chicken, bacon, and heavy whipping cream. Oh AND lots of cheddar cheese. Sounds perfect, right? Well, it also had lots of chopped up jalapeno peppers in it. Less good. But, that bacon was calling my name, so I gave in.

Now, this may be familiar to some of you, because the exact same story played out in a previous week, just with a different recipe. But it had been long enough that I forgot about the bacon/jalapeno…
