Each Sunday, my wife and I cook and eat a meal together — intentionally. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing our experience here in this space. I want to see the growth that will come in our marriage because of this. I hope you enjoy our story. You can find last week’s post here.

It felt so different. Sarah and I were driving with a friend to go to church. We had our masks on in the car, so our “new normal” was still breaking in. But this type of community — that used to feel so basic — now felt like a long-awaited extravagance. I’m learning about not taking life’s simple pleasures for granted. Having such community taken away from us for over a year has had its difficulties. Hear me — it has been worth it to promote safety for everyone. But it felt special to be back.

Our church was meeting outdoors at our local minor league baseball park, so social distancing measures were clearly still in place. But singing and just being with other people felt right. We made our way home after Easter service so filled with joy. Then came the output of that.

Actually, it had been building since the night before. Sarah had taken over this week and done the cooking all by herself. She found a recipe for lemon cheesecake that she wanted to try out…
