Each Sunday, my wife and I prepare, cook and eat a meal together — intentionally. Every Friday, I’ll be sharing our experience here in this space. I want to see the growth that will come in our marriage because of this. I hope you enjoy our story. You can find last week’s post here.

You may remember that Sarah and I recently purchased a spiralizer. I was hesitant at first, because I wasn’t familiar with it. But Sarah had done her research and knew that it would give us a wealth of cooking options. I’m so glad she did, because we’ve already tried some fabulous dishes using it. It served as a new reminder of lesson I’ve learned many times — keep exploring the world around you and trying new things.

This week’s meal followed in that pattern. One of my favorite aspects of cooking with my wife each week is that we get to try new things…together. We explore taste creations and open culinary worlds together. It’s always an adventure, even though we’re just a few feet from our own living room.

Sarah was looking up more recipes that we could use the spiralizer for. She landed on one that instantly caught my attention — pesto chicken pasta. I’ve always been a fan of pesto. When I was kid and we’d visit my uncle in Indianapolis, we always went to a pizza place that had the best pesto garlic bread imaginable.

And so we set off on a new adventure.

It began with a trip to the store to buy the ingredients for this week’s meal. Sarah and I don’t often do the shopping together. I enjoy grocery shopping, but it’s not exactly her thing. There’s no problem with that. But it does make those times when we go together extra special.

We came home and prepared the meal together. We each played a part and helped with our share. In no time, the dish was cooking on the stove, fragrant plumes wafting through the kitchen.

When it finally came time to try the meal, Sarah and I sat down to eat with piping hot bowls of pesto chicken sitting in front of us. With that first bite, I was so glad we branched out. My taste buds experienced brand new flavors. And it was made all the more special by the company I tried it with.

Never stop exploring. Branch out. Make room for your creativity. Try the pesto chicken pasta. And find someone to share it all with. I found my someone, and I’m never going to stop exploring with her.
