Cookpad’s Winter Party
Cocktails, Courses and Comedy…
Last Friday, at Cookpad, we had our first big party! What better way to kick-start the year than to get all the team together. We decided against having a standard Christmas party and did things a little bit differently.
The theme was Peaky Blinders, so everyone had a chance to don a waistcoat and cap. Luckily, there was no actual Peaky Blinder style action.
The evening kicked off with a 5 course Gin inspired menu at The Rummer, a Bristol Institution. We dined on Scallop gin ceviche, Duck in gin and lavender and, my favourite, Sloe gin roast plums with burnt milk ice cream, yum! Most of the team also had the gin flight to drink which had been thoughtfully designed to pair with each dish. Homemade limoncello anyone?
After 5 gin cocktails everyone was feeling very merry and up for a laugh. Luckily we were off to Smoke & Mirrors for a comedy magic show!
Smoke & Mirrors is a pub in the Bristol theatre district with a theatre of its own at the back. Before the act we were entertained by a card magician in the bar, who also had a bit of a knack for getting us all laughing. Once the ice was broken we settled in ready to be dazzled.
I was really surprised at just how hilarious the acts were — there was definitely more focus on comedy than magic and the laughs were non-stop! I also didn’t expect there to be so much involvement with the audience!
Watching your colleagues on stage partaking in the tricks (and jokes) really makes you see them in a different light!
A big round of applause for the Cookpad stars of the evening — Anastasia, Agnes, Edd, Liam, T.G., Edd, Rich, Harry, Freya, Edd, Philip, Karl and of course, Edd!
The finale was a ventriloquist act — using T.G as the dummy saying hilarious things to BFF Liam…if anyone wants to see the feature-length recording I am happy to share!!
I think I speak for the whole team when I say a great evening was had by all. The Social Committee need to brainstorm to come up with more ideas for the next party, any suggestions?
And on that note…
