3 Questions with London-Based Spider PR Director, Jessica Dixon

We sat down with Jessica Dixon, a PR director at PRGN partner, Spider PR in London when she was visiting CooperKatz in New York. Learn more about her, how PR differs in the U.K. versus the U.S., and her advice for young women starting out in the industry.
Has it been difficult to pitch with political news being so dominant?
It’s an interesting time for us with Brexit, the election, etc. I think one of the main things that it’s had an impact on is space for coverage, but I’ve also seen that essentially everyone — PR agency and/or brands — are trying to put a political spin on any and every story. As an industry, we need to ensure that our angles remain credible and relevant.
What are some of the significant PR trends in the UK right now?
We’re seeing a movement toward paid media, both on a digital and social media side of things. There’s now more demand for payment in return for said opportunity, which is totally evolving the PR model.
What advice would you give young women about becoming a leader in the industry?
I’d say follow your dreams. If you’re passionate about something and you think that you can do well, go for it, essentially, and try not to let anyone stand in your way. I think as long as you’re confident in your ability and you gain the skills you learn from people around you that you’ll be able to reach the top.
