Copia, a technology company solving hunger through circular economy, is excited to announce two leadership team updates. Kimberly Smith, formerly Copia’s Chief Growth Officer, has accepted the role of Chief Executive Officer. Additionally, Mimi Wittig has stepped into the role of Vice President of Operations.

Kimberly Smith joined Copia in 2019 from the advertising tech industry. With over 15 years of experience in sales, business development, data, and analytics, Kimberly has steadily steered Copia through critical business evolutions, as well as many milestones and achievements during the challenge of the pandemic. Kimberly is passionate about sustainability and believes that leveraging technology is key to solving the compounding issues of food insecurity and climate change. Outside Copia, Kimberly serves on the Board of Directors for Sunsar Maya, a Nepal-based educational non-profit supporting orphaned children and women’s literacy programs.

Mimi Wittig, who joined Copia in 2020 from the tech industry, brought her operational and logistics expertise as well as management of hyper-growth teams, end-to-end supply chain, and on-demand fulfillment. Mimi’s passion for solving food insecurity is based on her own experience, growing up in an immigrant family with limited resources. She knows that her work at Copia will inspire, bring much-needed change, and create opportunities for others.

“We are excited for Kimberly to take the reins as Chief Executive Officer and to welcome Mimi to the Operations Leadership role. The Copia Board is proud of and deeply committed to the success and future of Copia. Kimberly’s passion, vision, and strategic focus, coupled with Mimi’s operational expertise, will propel Copia toward solving food waste and hunger by scaling their innovative technology for social impact.” said Copia board member, Sofia Chancey.

Copia’s technology makes it easy for businesses to donate their surplus food safely, efficiently, and reliably. The easy-to-use app creates operational consistency and ensures that every donation is matched and delivered to a nonprofit in need. Copia’s robust data and analytics help inform business decisions, celebrate positive social and environmental impact made, write-off meaningful tax deductions, and show legislative compliance. With this shift in leadership, Copia will continue to be the industry leader in connecting supply and demand in real-time, offering valuable data, frictionless logistics, broad integration, and thought leadership to both foodservice businesses and nonprofits.

“I am honored to be leading the Copia team and to continue advancing Copia’s mission to champion the cause of waste reduction and food [re]distribution,” said Kimberly Smith, CEO of Copia. “The Copia team and our technology are changing the game for businesses looking to reduce their carbon footprint, serve their communities and help their bottom line. We not only make it simple and profitable for businesses to do the right thing, but we are democratizing food access and equity for all.”
