I recently had the privilege of attending an event featuring Angela Davis as a guest speaker. Sharing space with someone as wise and inspiring as her is truly a privilege. Without her, this publication would not exist.

The whole purpose of this publication is to serve as a community that provides clear & accessible paths to personal and collective care. In a system that thrives on oppression and exploitation, mutual care feels like an essential balancing act. I attended this talk to continue to learn best paths forward in this pursuit.

I’d like to use this piece to digest, and share, what I found insightful from the discussion. Here’s what resonated.

Our differences can point the way

Angela spoke to noticing a dichotomy in outlook on the future of this country — optimists are equally balanced by the pessimists. During her speech, she highlighted the intrinsic value of embracing our differences. She playfully exclaimed that “It’s boring to talk to people who agree with you about everything.” Through our differences we uncover invaluable lessons and opportunities to deeply think and generate new ideas, full of creativity and inclusivity.
