MELC

MELC, pronounced like many Americans say “Milk”, stands for Moral, Ethical, Legal, and Civil. It describes the separate and distinct attributes of social order. At its core, the MELC framework is one rule: “It is never acceptable to take away another person’s humanity.” You may have heard it as “Do unto others, as you would have done unto you.

The previous article explored the MELC framework as a tool to reframe legality from a civil perspective. MELC allows legal issues to be decided cleanly. MELC relies on a human lens rather than precedents. It provides a more independent view of human behavior and social structure.
