Brief recap
We’re into part 4 as we journey through time here. So far we’ve had upheaval in rebellion against feudalism by the peasants resulting in liberalism. Only to take it’s own course of unrestricted freedom into capitalism, again putting wealth into the hands of a few. We saw the subsequent evolution of revolt morph into a socialist set of ideals, and we distinguished it clearly from communism and Marxism, seeing the similarities and the differences.
Now we need to look at nationalism as it begins to play a bigger and bigger part in world politics, and played a huge part in the recent World Wars. But it too, has all happened before.
Nationalism
It is different from patriotism in that patriotism declares love for one’s country, whereas nationalism usually declares superiority of one’s country. The implicit inferiority of other countries is a hazardous and war-torn road to walk down.
