2024 US Election Series [9/10]
Preambles At Dawn — Republicans
Party platforms compared for the November election
Introduction
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the spectacle of the campaign trail. Trump gets shot in the ear and stands back up defiantly pumping the air with his fist; a Black and Asian female candidate rises to take the place of an old white man who’s over the hill. It’s all very poetic and surprisingly metaphorical considering these things really happened. Each party has had a ‘this is what we (think) we’re about’ moment as played out in real time.
Lovely.
But based on what they’re telling the American public, what are they actually promising to do? I mean, Trump can’t just get shot every year and represent the strength of the American dream (or rich elite) invulnerable to the BB gun-like assaults of the (presumably left-wing) rebellion against it; and Kamala can’t continuously replace old white dudes like a snake shedding its skin to represent the ideal of an inclusive social outlook and equal opportunity and freedom for all.
Cue the eagle soaring through the air. It’s all so very poster-worthy.
