So far

So far we’ve had the peasant’s rebellion against feudalism and the ruling elite, which resulted in liberalism. Liberalism then took it’s own course of unrestricted freedom into the territory of capitalism, which again began putting wealth into the hands of an elite few. We saw the subsequent evolution of revolt morph into a socialist set of ideals whereby the people as a whole would own the means of wealth production in an attempt to maintain equality in the society.

We distinguished socialism clearly from communism and Marxism, seeing the similarities and the differences. Then, we looked at nationalism and fascism and saw how a sense of collective national identity, when fuelled by resentment and disempowerment, can once again result in empowering a sect of ruling elites that assert their will over the collective.

What we’ve seen is that economic and political power seems to end up, time and time again, in the hands…
