Yoga Teacher Training Reflection

The first time I found myself on a yoga mat, I was in dire need of self-regulation. I was going through a breakup with a partner who I had lived with. Even though I knew the breakup was for the best, the amount of anxiety and sadness that my body was filled with was unbearable.
I signed up for therapy but also began looking at yoga studios in San Francisco to try out. I came across Yoga Garden SF, now Folk SF, and felt this instant connection with the studio. It was oddly familiar.
When I arrived for my first class, I walked through the two large wooden doors at the front of their Divisadero St. location and found a tiny but serene garden on the other side. A plaque directly in front of me read, “Your Journey Begins Here.”
That first class was both physically and emotionally challenging. I felt like a fish floundering from one pose to the next, trying my best to follow the rhythm of the class. That feeling perfectly matched the name of the room where the class was held…
