Learn Copywriting Fundamentals in 100 Minutes
Join Copy Kickstart: 10 Minutes a Day for 10 Days
I created a copywriting publication here on Medium in 2022. I’ve published 100s of articles about copywriting and helped 10,000s of readers.
It’s also been a huge help for me.
To be a good copywriter, you have to be curious. You need to love learning. Writing articles about copywriting inspires me to keep studying and learning about the timeless principles and the new trends.
I want to keep teaching people about copywriting because it’s a great skill for everyone to develop, and it helps me stay sharp.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a full-time writer, business owner, or employee.
Writing better copy = Making more money
Most people teaching copy focus on making money as a copywriter.
That’s great, but 99% of people won’t become a copywriter. Learning to write clearly and persuasively is helpful in any career path.
I’ve been thinking about how I could help people improve their copywriting skills without the typical course problems:
- Big price tag
- Lack of feedback
- Information overload
- Theoretical, not practical
Providing helpful feedback is the main thing I want to do. Nothing beats writing copy and getting actionable feedback on it.
I don’t want to be the typical course creator.
They promise huge results and charge you hundreds of dollars for content that’s available for free.
My caveat is that this idea came together earlier today. I haven’t thought out all the details yet — which is why I’m writing this article. Writing creates clarity, and publishing this will keep me accountable to create something great.
I’ve got drafts of products and ideas that I’ve thought about creating. They’re still drafts because I wrote about it and realized my great idea wasn’t a great idea.
100 days is too long
My first idea was a 100-day copywriting challenge.
You could make a lot of progress in 100 days.
Then I remembered what happened when I joined the 100 Days of Code course from Replit last December…I didn’t make it very far. I finished day 5, but it felt like I hadn’t made any progress.
95 more days of this? No thanks.
It was overwhelming, and I was all on my own. I had never coded before, barely made any progress, and there was no incentive to continue.
I wasn’t the only one to quit:
Another screenshot showed out of the 220,000+ who started the 100-day course, 830 people completed Day 100.
Maybe it’s the topic — coding is challenging. Maybe it’s the timeframe or the lack of community.
I looked up some New Year’s resolution stats:
- 43% of people give up by the end of January.
- Having accountability doubles your chances of achieving your goals.
I want to create something that people complete.
Everyone wants to make big life changes. Most people won’t make it more than 30 days, and trying to do it alone is playing the game on Hard Mode.
Spend 10 minutes learning the fundamentals of copywriting for 10 days inside a private Facebook group. That was my afternoon shower thought.
I can’t promise that you’ll start making $10,000/month or 10x your conversion rates.
You will become a better writer. You’ll join a community of likeminded people, and you’ll get constructive feedback so you can actually improve your copywriting.
I haven’t created a paid community like this before, so I don’t know what to expect. Maybe it’ll turn into something that helps a lot of people learn a valuable skill in 2025.
That’s my hope.
Build the foundation
Learning copywriting is like learning a new language.
I’ve spent 100s of hours reading books and blogs, listening to podcasts, watching tutorials, and writing about copywriting. There are many times when I still feel like a complete beginner.
You can spend 10 hours a day for the next 10 years studying copywriting.
My goal is to help you build a foundational understanding of copywriting quickly. Then you can continue to build on the foundation for years.
Here’s an overview of what you’ll learn:
- Day 1: Headlines
- Day 2: Hooks
- Day 3: Awareness Levels
- Day 4: Finding Angles
- Day 5: Storytelling
- Day 6: Proof & Credibility
- Day 7: Call to Action
- Day 8: Objection Handling
- Day 9: Creating Urgency
- Day 10: Copy Research
Inside the group, you’ll get daily 10-minute writing exercises, feedback and discussion from other group members, expert guidance, and templates and frameworks.
I haven’t ironed out all the details yet — and I don’t know what the demand for this will be.
The good news is I still have a couple weeks before 2025.
The first 10-day cohort will run January 2nd-12th, and I’m limiting it to 25 people so I can ensure it’s as valuable as possible.
