How To Write Persuasively

There are many important factors in writing with persuasion. The great part is that there are many that are not very complex, that can help you with anything you need to write.
- What is the goal? What action do you need the reader to take? It is critical that you identify this before you start to write. If you are not sure what the action is the reader certainly will not know.
- Get their attention. You need to get the readers attention so that they will read the rest of your letter. As many famous copywriters have said, the headline has one job, to get you to read the next line.
- Focus on the reader. It is very important to frame things from the perspective of how the reader’s life will be improved by what you offer.
- Speak about benefits, not just features. Make sure that the terminology you are using is going to make sense to the reader.
- Encourage people’s dreams, validate their feelings, and try to transfer any blame or fault away from the reader.
- If you get stuck, pretend you are describing your product or service to a friend. You may want to record yourself or use dictation to write the first draft.
- Tell a story. Take the reader on a journey. It could be a story of how the product came to be or it may be a story of how their life will be better for using the product.
- Social proof. Be sure to include testimonials where possible or social media. People want to know that others are doing this as well.
- Ask for the sale and make sure the person knows how they purchase (or take whatever the action is).
- Use copywriting formulas to help you. CopyHackers has a complete list of copywriting formulas in existence here. Here is a video I made that covers some of the most popular formulas.
