All over your website that are little words that could be making a big difference. These words can play a key part of both user experience and conversions.

These words and phrases are frequently called Microcopy. Microcopy frequently appears in the following places:

  • Website Buttons
  • Registration Forms
  • Sign up forms
  • Subscription forms
  • Error pages

These words are will often be the last ones a customer will see before taking action but may be the last thought about when writing copy.

In addition to helping to guide the customer along the process, these word choices are a great opportunity to show some personality for your brand.

When creating your microcopy it is important to look at both the word choices and whether using first or third person point of view. In most cases it will be better to phrase it from the first person, i.e. “start my trial now” instead of “start your trial.”

The places on our websites where we have these small words are exactly the places where customers will experience the biggest frustrations.

Take some time to go over your website and see how you can improve your microcopy.

This is taken from Copywriting for Non-Marketers that will be coming out on October 8th. Get your copy at a special launch discount here.
