Problem

Regulation and centralization of licensing and intellectual property rights in sports and entertainment constrains narratives, audience reach, and financial potential in a fragmented and global digital marketplace. The audience engagement, payment, and distribution models are not suited for digital natives and the broadest potential audiences. In 2018, 33% of total global advertising revenue is forecast to be digital. The decentralized, fragmented, and global nature of digital engagement, distribution and consumption of sports and entertainment content and games requires an open and distributed network that transforms audience engagement and advertising.

Disintermediating and redistributing resources and value closer to consumers, social media influencers, athletes and game developers who can best create and iterate narratives for engaged audiences.

Within these systemic problems are acute problems that can be summarized as lacking a fan-centric approach to funding, engagement, community, storytelling, sponsorship and advertising. The acute problems are as follows::

  • Mobile Audience Time Spent vs Ad Spending — The mobile ad spending mismatch, where in the US alone there is a US$16B shortfall of ad spending on mobile compared to time spent. Advertisers will close this gap of spending vs. audience attention.
  • Mobile Ad Blocking — mobile ad blocking is forcing advertising to innovate with ad formats
  • Mobile Game Time Spent — audience time spent in mobile games continues to grow year over year, more ad spending in mobile games is a result
  • Augmented Reality — new technologies are allowing new types of engagement that support product placement, without a supporting technological infrastructure for product placement.
  • Digital Item Economy growth — audience spending on digital items in games continues to increase outside of the mainstream content like sports and entertainment.
  • Crowdfunding of screen-based entertainment growth — more and more athletes, actors, and influencers are going direct to audiences to fund their projects without a community-driven ecosystem which can offer accountability, engagement, expanded narratives, and shared ownership.

These are inherent deficiencies in existing sports and entertainment approaches to audience engagement, advertising, and distribution. An athlete or influencer may go direct to brand and vice versa, but in the current system a talent agency, ad agency, team, league, and others slow or impede deal flow.

Solution — Core Blockchain Network

The Core Blockchain Network (Core Network) is an open and distributed protocol built on the Ethereum blockchain. It aims to mitigate the current inherent deficiencies of existing sports and entertainment audience engagement, advertising, and distribution models, for example, an athlete or influencer may go direct to brand and vice versa, but in the current system a talent agency, ad agency, team, league, and others slow or impede deal flow. By marrying blockchain technology with mobile technology, augmented reality, advertising, distribution and development, new systems to support enhanced audience engagement can be drastically improved and sped to market. The Core Network leverages the new CORE Coin, existing and new game titles, and an existing game engine.

“CORE Coin” ERC20 token is a new cryptocurrency that brings advertisers, storytellers, athletes, influencers, and audiences together in a new way. At its core is great sports and entertainment technology and titles.

CORE will be used by players, game developers, film and television producers, advertisers and audiences for mobile sports and entertainment experiences. Audiences and advertisers use CORE Coins to buy advertising inventory, digital items via in-app purchases, and physical merchandise. They contribute to development, participate in programming, vote for on-air contestants, donate to charity, subscribe to content, and purchase advertising associated with sports and entertainment titles.

CORE is rewarded through engagement and becomes superior to other currencies as the resulting value enables uninterrupted storytelling, charity, rewards, and growth of the Core Network for sports, entertainment, brands and audiences.

Why Blockchain?

Core Network is a technology, production, marketing and distribution platform. Celebrity-fan engagement is interrupted by old business models and players. There are agents, agencies, news organizations, unions, leagues, and more between a fan and a celebrity or athlete. All taking percentages and at times restricting access to an open interaction between brands that want to support athletes and influencers, athletes that want to support a charity and engage with audiences directly. The Core Network makes connections to facilitate transactions, engagements and interaction. The Core Network is using the blockchain to decentralize and facilitate transactions such as the following:

  • In-app transactions (rewards, redemptions, digital items)
  • Supply chain that encumbers brand — athlete / influencer, brand — audience, and athlete — audience relationships and connections
  • Physical Merchandise
  • Subscriptions
  • Video Streaming
  • Augmented Reality
  • Smart Contracts
  • Advertising Exchange
  • Product Placement
  • Celebrity-Fan Engagement
  • Gaming
