What are the big 2020 Enterprise Mobility Trends?

The Forrester Wave™: Unified Endpoint Management, Q4 2019 notes that “the happiest employees are those who can make progress every single day.” Progress here being a self-driven, action often supported by mobility. With employee engagement- Customer satisfaction, etc. is the prime focus for enterprises, the transition from mobile device management (MDM), to enterprise mobility management (EMM), to the more recent unified endpoint management (UEM) has been all targeted towards improved performance, individual progress, smoother and efficient enterprise-level operations facilitated by enhanced mobility.

Each year the upward surge of certain technologies, the launch of new ones and the growing acceptance shown across workplaces, point towards certain trends that can take enterprises to the next level of operational effectiveness.

Considering this, let’s take a look at some of the top enterprise mobility trends for 2020.

Rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

AI has come a long way from being just a far-fetched idea to a day-to-day assistant, be it in form of the Voice-activated assistants Siri, Alexa, Cortana or Google Assistant, or the biometric, facial recognition software. AI in its advanced application is being used for improving customer relations using Natural Language Processing (NLP), project management and even to entirely run retail, Amazon Go being the best example. Other examples include the use of AI intelligent assistants (Emma, used by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services), for Ad Targeting and Media Buying, to handle retail shelf monitoring (SHELF WATCH), shelf image analytics, in IT infrastructure for Automated Code Development (DeepCode, Stack Overflow Autocomplete), for Network/Information Technology Operations Monitoring and Management (AIOps), and more. As the rise of AI continues so does its influence on enterprise mobility.

Intuitive Security Models

Mobility has often been hindered by security issues. However, the surge of devices in the enterprise mix indicates nothing but increased flexibility towards device integration. Security models, hence, will now take an intuitive approach and will change for the better. The multi-layered security model comes in as the safest option.

The Coming of 5G

While 4G has already rewritten the way, data was consumed and utilized across the globe. The coming of the 5th generation of mobile communications is definitely the next big thing. Enterprises are now eagerly waiting for widespread deployment. 5G offers the promise to be ultra-fast in a low-latency network.

IoT and Growth

According to Statista, “from 2015 to 2025, the number of connected devices (Internet of Things; IoT) worldwide and the installed base of Internet of Things devices is forecast to grow to almost 31 billion worldwide”.

The availability of strong IoT software platforms by IBM, Amazon, Cisco, GE, and other giants, that offer multi-tier solutions with simplified design, creation, integration, and management of IoT infrastructure and enterprise data will accelerate this trend. IoT is now becoming an integral part of Proximity marketing, for deploying context-aware and localized content with the help of Beacons/Sensors in retail. IoT-based medical devices, health trackers, etc. are slowly revolutionizing the way healthcare services reach patients. IoT devices and systems for tracking assets are seeing a steady growth too. According to a report, “the asset tracking IoT device market will triple by 2022.” It is no longer just about the integration of IoT with Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) for enhanced productivity, improved security and better analytics and predictions, IoT is now being adopted by various business sectors for diverse applications.

Cross-Platform App Development

App development is almost synonymous with enterprise mobility. While it may not sound much as a trend, considering the fact that the demand for native apps is hasn’t diminished and yet there is an increasing need for cross-platform apps, Cross-platform development will soon be vital for time-cost effective app development. Few names already popular in the market are Xamarin, PhoneGap, Flutter, etc.

Most of these trends in synergy with technologies like AR, VR, AI, and Machine Learning promise to increase mobility, interactivity, and add value to both the organization and consumers
