How to Prepare for the Global Game Jam

The Global Game Jam is a game development event that happens every year at the end of January and the beginning of February. Its latest versions were mostly done online due to the pandemic, but the good days of jamming on-site are gladly back.

I have participated in the Global Game Jam almost every year since 2014, with varying sizes of teams. Since 2020, I have been joining as a solo developer. Moreover, I engage in multiple other game jams throughout the year and work as a Game Developer/Design Teacher supervising gaming projects daily.

In this article, I discuss what a Game Jam is, precisely the Global Game Jam. Besides, this piece brings some principles to help you achieve a nice experience. Moreover, some factual tips are shared, based on my experience, on what helps me consistently have good and fun jams.
