Climate Change Solutions (2)
Hi~ Welcome back. Last week, we talked about some of solutions for climate change. As far as I remember, we did not cover them enough. So, I would like to talk a little bit more about solutions in this post.
First of all, we can legislate a law which has a tougher greenhouse gas emission standard. As I mentioned in earlier blog post, greenhouse gases are the one of major cause for climate change. So, reducing greenhouse gas emission is removing fundamental cause. Currently, the United States’b greenhouse gases are regulated under Clean Air Act which was legislated in 1963. According to United States Environmental Protection Agency(US EPA), 6 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases are expected to be reduced by their act which is regulating only vehicles. Considering fact that regulating only in vehicles can reduce this much if they expand their regulation into other fields such as power plants, industries, and agricultures, then we can expect less amount of greenhouse gas emission than previous expectation. Also, raising a standard can also work. Let’s pretend current law allows 6 tons of carbon dioxide emission for each factory in a year. If we amend this into more tougher standard such as allowing 5.5 tons of carbon dioxide emission for each factory in a year, then we will have 0.5 ton less carbon dioxide in our atmosphere which is emitted by a factory. 0.5 ton can be look small, but if we consider that entire factory in the United States were forced by law to keep that amount, then we can reduce tremendous amount. Therefore, climate change issue can be improve by legislating a law.
Next, preparing for the possible impact that climate change can cause to us can be one of the solutions for this issue. There are a lot of optimistic studies about climate change. They insists that if we put the effort on climate change issue, then it will be improve and eventually we will be free from concerning about this issue.However, there are some studies which are insisting that the climate change is unstoppable. According to them, we are in the situation that the climate change can’t be improve or reverse. So, they insist that we can slow down the climate change, but cannot stop. Likewise, climate change issue is in unpredictable situation. So, we should be aware of that we can face the situation which we can’t stop the climate change.Therefore, preparing for the possible climate change impacts can be a solution for climate change issue.
During past 2 weeks, we looked for the possible solutions to improve climate change issue. I think 4 things that we talked about in my posts are the most fundamental solutions. There might be other better solutions, so if you have one please feel free to mention it in the comment area. I don’t really care which solution is the most effective or not.
