#SelfLove

Recently, I have been conducting a survey on the effects of social media on user’s self-esteem, and if narcissistic tendencies emerge and/or are increasing due to increasing use. To be clear, social media induced narcissism. We are portraying two version of ourselves.

The public rendition:

But first, let me take a selfie!

The private rendition:

The weight of the world.

However, I was really touched by some of the honest answers I received on my survey. First and for most, the survey was completely anonymous and in my opinion it allowed the participants freedom to answer without feeling judged or stigmatised. Additionally, I hoped the anonymity of the survey allowed the participants to express themselves without having to pt on a facade.

Back to the the point, I was extremely moved and touched by the honesty and sincerity of the applicants. Below are some of the questions I asked.

Do you care how people perceive you online?

Rate your experience with social media?

Does social media at value to your life?

The participants opened up and talked about how alot of their self-worth depends on the responses they receive on social media. If they have positive responses on a certain photo, for example, the participants would tailor their style the aspects that were liked. Similarly, If a participant expressed a certain opinion or perspective and felt that the responses were negative or vindictive. Of course, so people would say they just brush it off because everyone is entitled to their opionion. However, alot of users stated, if they receive negative responses they become cautious about what they say, post, upload, etc.

The more research I am doing on my topic, the more I am realizing the dramatic difference between narcissism and self esteem, and self-esteem and self- love
