“Do these pants make me look fat?”

This popular and commercialized concept of weight has engulfed society by priming them to believe that the less you weigh the more beautiful, successful, and intelligent you will be in the eyes of others. Many individuals have responded to this publicized idea in one of two ways. For some people the topic of weight is taboo in the sense that this individual never desires to speak about the concept. They will never address what their own weight actually is or will never talk about how the weight of others is either better or worse in comparison to theirs in order to maintain their self esteem. On the contrary, others can’t do anything else besides focus on and discuss how they need to loose weight and how they can prevent the formation of the forbidden muffin top.

Thanks to these anti-muffin top individuals, the societal norm of constantly worrying about one’s weight has led numerous people to strive to obtain that “perfect body” by engaging in extreme workouts and fad diets all as a result of having high levels of social physique anxiety. However, despite dedicating a portion of one’s life to running three miles on the treadmill everyday and only eating bread once a week, many still have a hard time getting and keeping the unwanted body weight off. It is this difficultly of getting and keeping weight off that causes individuals with already high levels of social physique anxiety to increase the elevation of this anxiety and degree of body consciousness.

As a young woman I strongly relate to and constantly battle against the idolized concept of weight loss. While I enjoy exercising on a weekly basis and eating healthy, I’m not ashamed to say I also engage in these actions due to wanting to loose weight. I found that regardless of either dieting or working out well, over time I have never actually seen any drastic body weight loss changes, and instead seem to just maintain the current weight that I am.

I always wondered why it’s so easy for my friends to loose weight quickly while I’m here with my moderately high level of social physique anxiety cursing at the treadmill asking it why can’t you magically let me have the “perfect body” that everybody else has? So I looked to Coach Calorie again, as I had once done in my very first blog post, for some advice as to how one can loose weight and prevent it from coming back. After reading his blog Coach Calorie’s main message is that in order to loose and keep weight off one needs to be able to uphold the same healthy habits over time. Essentially, if I was going to try to loose weight through the methods of eating clean and exercising regularly, this would only work if I kept this routine up my whole life. This claim has merit to it because since I don’t exercise everyday and I don’t eat clean all the time when I do start to make weight loss progress, all of said progress vanishes due to straying away from routine, eating junk food, or skipping the gym.

Coach Calorie also plays off of the individual with high social physique anxiety’s weight loss mindset of being a “hopeless cause” by giving tips on how one can succeed in the action of staying on track to efficiently loose and keep off unwanted fat. He claims to avoid the “this worked for me last time” fitness phenomenon because according to Coach Calorie had this perfect weight loss method actually worked for you in the past you wouldn’t be reading his blog searching for a fitness plan that you can actually stick to. He additionally suggests to focus less on the desire of loosing weight and more on putting a stronger effort into actually committing to engaging in a consistent and permanently healthy fitness lifestyle.

“Every decision about your eating and exercise should tie back into those two goals….It’s more important to consistently accomplish your small goals than it is to set the big ones and always fall short.”

Thus my cardio bunnies and Muscle Milk bros don’t fret about not being your ideal weight because in the end with a little hard work the results will naturally come to you and when they do you’ll be more pleased that your hard work actually paid off than you will be with how many calories or pounds you actually lost.
