What can climate change do on us? (2)

Last week, I talked about effects that climate change can do on us. Hopefully, I successfully draw your attention on this issue. However, effects that we learned last week are not it. Unfortunately, there are other things that climate change can affect on us. Therefore, I decided to spend another week to talk about the effects of climate change.

First of all, sea level is rising due to climate change. These days icebergs near arctic and antarctic are melting in a rapid rate due to the climate change. As a result, those melted ices are causing rise in sea level. Sea level rise means shrink of the land. In other words, it means human’s habitat is shrinking. Unfortunately, we already lost 5 islands in the pacific ocean due to sea level rise(Reuter, 2016). Furthermore, 11 family who lived in Nuatambu island, one of islands consisting Solomon Islands, lost their house due to sea level rise in 2011(Reuter, 2016). Likewise sea level rise is threatening our habitats. More serious thing is that the rate of sea level increment is increasing these day compare to past. According to John A. Church and Neil J. White, rate of sea level rise is increasing in 0.013mm/yr(Church and Neil, 2006). Some might say it is small to ignore it. But actually it is not. If you consider that yearly increment is 1.7mm/yr, it is really big value. Therefore, we need to keep our eyes on climate change.

Second, deforestation can be observed by climate change. As like crops we discussed last week, plants and trees have specific favorable conditions to grow. Climate change will effect plants and trees growth. Consequently, we will observe deforestation due to climate change. Interestingly, deforestation can caused by climate change, but it can also contribute to climate change as well. Forest are taking essential role in the carbon cycle on earth. They are known for absorbing carbon-dioxide and make it to oxygen. By forest, we can maintain current carbon dioxide amount in our atmosphere. However, if deforestation occurs then it means lost our oxygen purifying machine. It will result increasing amount of carbon dioxide in atmosphere. Considering the fact that carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases, increase in carbon dioxide amount in atmosphere will accelerate the climate change process. As a result, we will experience severe effect caused by climate change. Therefore, we need to react to the climate change.
