As part of our ‘GIC 2018. In Review’ Series we also wanted to highlight key trends that we noticed during the conference. The first we would like to talk about is the Standardisation of International Internships.

This trend came about through discussions surround Health & Safety, streamlining processes to allow more internships to be managed and organised by University staff and in an effort to also streamline students, staff and parents expectations of what an Internship is.

It makes sense that as the demand for internship opportunities increases and institutions set targets of number of students in international placements - by implementing internal standards, weight can be lifted from the careers and internship teams as they reduce the number of per-case conversations they have with students. What we were hearing from delegates at the conference is that their institutions are placing parameters around Internship opportunities such as credit being mandatory and minimum 8 weeks placements.

We would love to conversation and hear if your College or University has put similar parameters in place and if so what was the main driver behind the decision? Additionally, have any other standards been introduced that have made a positive impact both staff and students?

Look forward to hearing from you!
