Coronavirus SF: May 17, 2021 — You’re Invited!
Hello coronavirus-sf subscribers!
I hope this email finds you well — and done with your tax filings for 2020 (or extension requests, which my parents are fans of). What month is it? What year is it? I had calendar confusion today, but am interpreting this as a sign that things are getting back to normal! The various automated systems for coronavirus-sf and covid-usa are chugging along (after April code updates to account for dataset changes). I expect that the data will continue to be less exciting than it was in 2020 — and that’s an amazing thing!!! 🎉
You’re invited to an in-person, in-real-life gathering in San Francisco on Sunday, June 27, 2021! We will be celebrating a vaccinated summer at Yerba Buena Gardens area starting Noon! 😎
Please let me know if you’re up for attending! I don’t know many of the subscribers to this newsletter, and many of you don’t know each other. It’d be fun to meet and converse! And for people I do know, it’d be amazing to meet again!
As you’re probably aware, vaccination progress in the SF Bay Area is going very well! Since vaccine eligibility opened broadly in mid-April, almost everyone has been able to find appointments. As of today, 76% of SF residents age 16+ have received at least one vaccine dose, and 61% of those SF residents have completed the vaccination series (sfgov.org). The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine has now also been approved for kids ages 12 to 15 (sfmayor.org). By summer, this idea of “herd immunity” that felt so esoteric during the depths of winter could become very real! Also, I had “Get Covid vaccine (all doses) without getting Covid” as my #1 new year’s resolution. Well, that was easy! (Umm…)
The countdown has begun to the California “ reopen” in mid-June. Let’s see what that looks like: movie theaters, indoor dining, and more! If this past weekend is any indicator, I’m pretty sure that post-pandemic SF will be more lively than ever.
Enjoy your week!
