Lucas is a rising sophomore at Harvard College intending to major in Mind, Brain, & Behavior on the CS track. In CVT, he directs the staff on outreach and operations and enjoys working with data on many projects, like the NYC data and Socioeconomic factors teams.

Lucas was born in Germany, grew up in Irvington, NY, and went to a Jesuit school in the Bronx, NY. On campus, he worked as a research assistant for Opportunity Insights, an ESL tutor, and a student facilitator for the Ed Portal. He even helped organized Evening With Champions, the Fair Opportunity Project, and AGORA media. In quarantine, he enjoys playing badminton, inventing card games, and cooking with his family.

What have you learned in CVT?

Broadly speaking, I’m learning how to help students connect better, whether through recruiting, designing the organization structure, partnership planning, leading staff, or inter-organizational team meetings. I’m learning both technical and soft skills, most importantly Tableau, but also Stata, project management, and organizational leadership.

What does creating clear and meaningful content mean to you?

Clear and meaningful content begets awareness. Awareness begets understanding. Understanding begets change. Being able to show the whole picture is impossible, but we have to strive to be both unbiased and holistic to do our duty as visualizers and students.
