Meet Kelly Ly- CVT Project Development Advisor and Vizathon Lead
Kelly Ly is an undergraduate at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She currently serves as the Project Development Advisor at the CVT, where she ensures efficient communication within the organization and provides guidance to projects and operational teams. She is also currently the director of CVT’s Vizathon 2021 — helping to lead a team of organizers to plan and execute our first-ever Vizathon!
Ly has been a member of the CVT for over a year now, and through her relentless hard work and passion, she has worked her way up to executive status. Ly initially joined the CVT as an opportunity to do something useful amidst the pandemic, hoping to learn more about data analysis and visualization. As she got more familiar with the organization, she started to delve into internal operations.
After many months directing the CVT, her experiences have taught her lasting skills that she hopes to apply to her personal life.
“Throughout my time at CVT, I have learned new data visualization and analysis tools by being a part of several research projects,” she notes. “I’ve been involved in various teams within CVT and have learned so many new things from creating podcasts to establishing partnerships. These experiences at CVT have really helped me develop both my leadership and technical skills.”
Most importantly, Ly highlights her fellow CVT members as a primary reason for her attraction to this organization. With members from all across the globe, Ly appreciates the diversity she has been exposed to and is inspired by the students she has gotten the opportunity to work with.
“My favorite part of my time here is getting to know and work with a global community of students excited about changing the world,” Ly exclaims. “The members of CVT are constantly coming up with new ideas and projects, and they are honestly some of the most amazing individuals I have ever met.”
With exciting new projects on the horizon, Ly looks forward to continuing to grow the CVT and watching it expand its global impact!
Outside of the CVT, Ly organizes gender-focused hackathons at TechTogether, the nation’s largest initiative that seeks to address the gender inequities prevalent in the hackathon community.

Ly’s work within TechTogether has expanded her leadership skills and provided her with invaluable experience in organizing hackathons. She hopes to utilize this experience as she leads CVT’s Vizathon 2021, which aims to see the same success as CVT’s previous hackathon events. As its date is right around the corner (July 28th to August 1st), Ly has been working persistently to market the event and ensure its maximal preparation.
