CoronavirusArmy — March 18 Update
CoronavirusArmy had a video conference today at 1pm PST, we have moved to using Zoom due to the volume of volunteers.
We’re going to break up into a few separate initiatives to keep our growing group of volunteers more organized and focused.
For now, we are organizing into the following 7 initiatives:
#1. Nest
Self-quarantine room locator. Especially for those who want to self-isolate but live with essential workers who can’t self-isolate. Or for doctors with elderly or high-risk family members.

Helping doctors, hospitals and medical workers with special requests

#3. Boots on the Ground
Tracking elderly, pregnant, and immunodeficient to make sure they’re ok during the lockdown; running errands for them

#4. Work From Home
Pushing for all businesses to implement work-from-home; and helping businesses find the tech to do it. Helping people who lost their jobs find work-from-home jobs. Creating a directory of business that do and don’t allow work-from-home.
We need a team leader for this initiative!
#5. Project Gloves
Getting grocery stores to allow and enforce gloves for grocery store employees. Run change.org petitions and boycotts for FredMeyers and other big stores that won’t let employees wear gloves.
We need a team leader for this initiative!
#6. Shut it Down!
Focus on finding big events that aren’t yet canceled and pressuring local government and event organizers to see that these events are shut down.

#7. CoronavirusArmy Growth & Operations
Managing CoronavirusArmy operations: setting up nonprofit entity, recruiting volunteers, onboarding volunteers, developing website features, etc.

Daily Standup Zoom Call: 1:30pm-2:00pm
Below are a few notes from the 1pm call:
- We have set up different initiative channels in Telegram for Nest, Boots on the Ground, Frontlines, and Growth.
- Each initiative will have a daily Zoom call using the same meeting link, which is posted in Notion.
- Team leads will be taking on the role of facilitating the daily standup within the time frame for each group as well as onboarding new volunteers.
Current needs:
- Help is needed in the Onboarding and Growth area, to gather new volunteer skills and get them headed to the right initiative team.
- Some initiatives still need a team lead. Work from Home, Gloves, and Shut it Down are all seeking someone to tentatively lead.
Notes from specific attendees:
- Deanna: Taking on role of team lead for nest, has worked up and general outline for web app as well as a mobile app.
- Elizabeth: Taking on team lead for frontline, proposed project gloves to press local grocery and retail chains to implement allowing their employees to wear gloves while working. Fred Meyer is not allowing gloves and that might be a good start.
- Zach A: Reaching out to local charity today to see if they need to expand support for undocumented families, and going to help with the growth and operations as well.
- Jenny: Team lead for Boots, Standup call time for team will be 12–12:30 pst
- Zach D: added a directory of volunteers to the website to help streamline initiative placement.
