Pencils down
Phrase:
“Pencils down”
How to Use It:
Remember that terrifying feeling in the pit of your stomach when you were only half way through a test and your 5th grade math teacher said “pencils down?” If you want to make sure someone meets a deadline, make them remember that feeling.
Example:
[Wednesday morning]
Senior Vice President: I said pencils down Wednesday morning, and you’re still trying to jot down last minute changes. Do you not understand the gravity of this situation?
Classroom full of 5th graders: [Avoiding eye contact with the SVP while frantically squeezing in final updates to the deck]
