10K Unique Organic Followers

Celebrating a Launch Point… with an article on why we care

Late last night, Corsair’s crossed 10K unique organic followers! There was much rejoicing and no one had to eat any minstrels.

Of course, if you believe the incessant stream of spam in our inboxes — we could have gotten that many in about 2 weeks for somewhere between $5 and $100. So why should we really care… especially given that it took us over 6 months?

Unique Organic Growth

Corsair’s Publishing distributes content across numerous channels. We are on Medium, LinkedIN, Twitter, and nearly every major social media site. We are registering subscribers directly at Corsair’s Network and through partnerships with other media and education partners. But this goal has always been about acquiring unique followers, organically.

In other words, we don’t pay to get them and we don’t count any follower beyond their first channel. To all those who follow us on multiple channels — we love that, too! It is just not what we are celebrating this weekend. Organic is about providing a product or a service that is attractive to a large audience, not a VC funded mass marketing campaign. We built this the hard way, but the way with the greatest value.

Finally, the goal has always been about growth. Half of our followers have joined us in the last 60 days. More than half of those in the last 30. We expect the next 10K to arrive before the middle of the year (3–4 months). We believe that our product is resonating, that are content is compelling, and that our audience is very interested in connecting.

But why 10,000?

Because these two geniuses told us that was important. Well actually Macklemore and Malcolm Gladwell were talking about hours of practice…

Simply put- round numbers and five digits felt pretty compelling.

But back to Macklemore, his/their theory on directed practice does apply. It took nearly 1 Million views to produce roughly 100K+ reads. Reads is a loose metric here, some channels are very good at tracking them (like medium) — some don’t even try. Those 100K+ reads have delivered us our current audience.

For a company whose devoted purpose is to deliver innovative new content and learning in the area of analytics - that is a lot of practice. From an analyst’s view, it is a lot of data and experimentation. From a logician’s point of view, we built a system that is providing strong and compelling feedback. As an iterative, bootstrapping entrepreneur — that is a great launching point!

So… Where To Now?

Our motto or tagline is Connect -Learn- Engage. So we are just getting started. So far we have focused on connecting to our audience and we don’t plan to stop. But lately we have focused more on developing our content to provide more learning and engagement. The feedback has been positive, but the test plan is young.
