.ape minters! As one of less than 150 Gen0 invite holders, you are in an elite and early community!

Lots of good domains have been selected so far, like ethereum.ape, planetofthe.ape, metaverse.ape and many more. Be sure to mint in the next week or so before we open Gen. This will ensure you get the one you want!

Check out the demo videos at the bottom of this article on minting subdomains, minting, and even updating metadata for your .ape domain! Metadata editing will be available when Cortex Press goes live, but you can see the results on OpenSea in the collection; some nice generative art examples there.

We have tons of information to share about .ape domains! First, a bit about why we organized tokenomics and pricing. Then, most importantly, we’ll explain the utility you will get as you mint your .ape domains.

Next week, we’ll share another post about minting strategy. This information will be critical after Gen0 to ensure you have the insights you need to take full advantage of all the benefits you’ll have in future mints. We hope you may even share your minting strategy for later generations as posts you publish with your .ape domains!!! The publishing site will be up very soon, so stay tuned!

First, some info on where we are today:

There were a total of 256 Gen0 invite tokens, of which you have at least one. Be sure to check the wallet you signed up with at https://ape.cloud/invite or check the hidden folder on OpenSea. If you cannot find your Gen0 token, please reach out on Twitter to @cortex_app to check the status. If you are not currently in the Twitter group for .ape, please request either as a reply to this email or on Twitter.

You can use your invite token to mint at https://ape.cloud. Pricing and a lot of FAQs are there as well.

You’ll have until around January 5th to claim, meaning you are guaranteed to mint one of the first 256 .ape domain names if you act before then.

Why 256? First, it’s a nice geeky number, 2 to the 8th (apeth) power, and it is small enough that if you are one of them, you are pretty much assured of getting a domain you want. That’s also part of why there are no discounts in Gen0. We selected this group as people who “get it” and will help spread the word and benefit from getting in early.

Important info about minting!

So, as a Gen0 minter, you’ll likely get the name you want, but we’ve also designed the launch so you can actually make some $ if you play your mints right.

As a quick example, if you mint a $100 domain at Generation 0, then give your 3 Generation 1 invites to friends, and they each mint $100 domains, you’ll make $150, so you’ll net $50 and one pretty sweet domain name. Or, you can mint 3 domains for $50 each after rebate, and then have 9 invites for Gen2. This same pattern of mint 1, get 3 invites to next generation holds until Generation 4, where the minting and invites end. Less than 32,000 .ape domain names will ever exist. All mints after Gen0 direct 50% of minting to the parent invite-holder.

Running the launch this way gives the greatest benefits to those who come in early! All Gen0 minters will be able to start using these domains in meaningful ways as a private alpha for the Cortex network.

The Cortex Press site, which will launch sometime in the coming week, will allow you to start using these domains as a blog, public notes, private notes, and personal communication without having to know much about the complexities of a Web3 backend, like IPFS. Even if you sell your .ape NFT domain, the content you write will stay connected and owned by you, the keyholder. There are lot of things you’ll be able to do with .ape domains that you cannot do with any other NFT domains out there. The core of the historical web is HTTP, a content distribution protocol. You might similarly think of Cortex network as a new kind of protocol for publishing to a user-owned Web3.

We have a lot of things in store, including some exclusive NFT access, rewards, and gifts for the best metadata updates and use of your .ape domains!! You can also mint unlimited subdomains as full NFTs and use them in some pretty complex ways we’ll cover in future communications. Stay tuned!

In case you missed it, your .ape domain is also an ENS domain and comes with all the power of ENS. You can start using name.ape.cloud address as an ENS name as it is tied to your public ETH address. Go ahead and give it a try! If you own hallucin.ape as an NFT domain, then hallucin.ape.cloud is your ENS name!
