1. Introduction
What is Cosmic Champs?
Cosmic Champs is a universe of battle arenas developed by gaming studio, Mad Shapes. It is a real-time strategy game set in a retro-future where ships crewed by Champs traverse the cosmos, descending to do battle on hostile, resource-rich planets. Champs compete in online battle arenas in a tower-rush format, fighting tooth, nail and antenna for their share of the loot and intergalactic fame.
What is it like to play Cosmic Champs?
The cosmos is a play-to-earn GameFi economy where you buy, sell, trade and battle NFTs. Players can collect multiple types of NFTs, including Champs, Ships, Planets, Treasures, and Utilities (e.g., magic and buildings). Players aim to assemble the perfect combination of battle-hardened Champs and Utilities to formulate superior strategies to outmaneuver opponents in competitive gameplay and win tournaments to claim tokens and Treasure. During battle, Ships transform into a base and busily mine a Planet’s natural resources (Steel Chips) to gather enough to mint new Ships and expand their fleet.
What is the Cosmic Champs story?
Set in a retro-future 13,000 years from now, civilisation has stretched to the far reaches of the cosmos. An age of peace and prosperity comes to a shuddering halt when mysterious dark forces emerge, swallowing the known world and leaving only a few survivors scattered across the cosmos. The depths of space are now home to roaming ships crewed by ex-soldiers, hotwired robots and other misfits. They fondly refer to themselves as Champs and they are after one thing — payday! They search for loot and planets rich in resources to mine and often find that they are not alone. Players battle each other in winner-takes-all arenas.

What is the vision for Cosmic Champs?
Cosmic Champs is the first piece of our metaverse — a play-to-earn game that rewards its community. We will add more games to the cosmos and Cosmic Champs NFTs will freely flow between these games. We’ll also add VR spaces and mini-games so our community can come together and embody their NFTs in fun and exciting ways. You’ll be able to modify your NFTs with Cosmic Fashion — who will have the most drip? We also plan to build a dedicated marketplace to exclusively trade our NFTs. This is a win for our community who will receive lower fees, and a win for the ecosystem which will earn greater revenue.
Will Cosmic Champs become a DAO?
Our vision is for Cosmic Champs to be owned and operated by the community that plays it. Nobody is better placed to govern a game than its players — they are the experts! To ensure the long-term security and stability of Cosmic Champs, we will gradually transition to a community owned DAO.
COSG is the mechanism that allows Cosmic Champs to transition to a DAO. When the game launches, the community treasury will go live and begin to receive income generated by players. The process of distributing the network will occur gradually as COSG is distributed among users through staking and play-to-earn rewards. As more tokens are distributed via these mechanisms, the ownership of COSG will become less concentrated. From Q3 2023, COSG stakers will be able to vote on things such as the use of community treasury, the number of NFTs to mint, new gameplay concepts, the amount for play-to-earn rewards, balancing changes to characters, and the introduction of new Planets. A detailed plan for the translation to a DAO will be provided later.
2. COSG
What is Cosmic Gold?
Our governance token, Cosmic Gold (COSG), will rule the Cosmic Champs metaverse. COSG will be used to earn staking rewards, reward players for using the game (P2E), buying NFTs, and entering NFT prize games. When we transition to a DAO, holders of COSG will steer the ship as they will vote on changes to the game. It will also be used to fuel our creator economy which will reward the community for helping build our metaverse. COSG will be available to trade on TinyMan in mid-April.
The ASA ID for the COSG token is 1065092715. Please note that the token will not be tradable until launch circa April 21 2022.

What are the COSG tokenomics?
Cosmic Gold is a governance token that will be unlocked using a pre-determined schedule which lasts for 48 months from launch. The initial circulating supply is set to 34,965,000 COSG — 12.95% of the total supply. Total token supply will never exceed 270,000,000.

Why a total supply of 270 million COSG?
There were two main considerations that used to guide our token supply:
- COSG is a governance token with a fixed supply — it is not an inflationary token;
- We wanted an initial token price that was low but not very low — we were thinking cents not a fraction of a cent.
There is some arbitrariness to the exact number but we thought 270 million worked with these considerations.
Was there a private sale?
Yes, a private sale was conducted in December 2021 and it consisted of a seed and strategic round. We were lucky enough to be oversubscribed so only key ecosystem partners who wished to help us realise our long-term vision were selected to participate. Borderless capital are our lead partner from the private sale.
What was the token price for the private sale?
The fully diluted market cap valuation of the strategic round was 14 million USD.
Will there be a public pre-sale, what will be the IDO price? There is no public pre-sale. We want everyone in the public to have fair and equal access to our token when it launches. We will launch COSG on TinyMan and offer staking rewards for holders via Yieldly’s staking pools. For more info read this blog.
Will there be COSG staking?
Yes! 20% of Cosmic Gold can be earned through DeFi staking rewards. These rewards will initially start out high to incentivise user growth and gradually decline as Cosmic Champs reaches maturity.
Are there any restrictions on the team selling their tokens?
Yes, the team’s tokens are locked for 9-months then they are released on a 24-month vesting schedule. Team members will not receive any tokens during the lockup period then the same amount of tokens will be released each month for 24-months. It will be close to 3 years before the team receives all of their tokens.
How are team tokens vested?
We have a 9 month cliff on team tokens. This means team doesn’t get any tokens for first 9 months. After that the tokens are vested over a period of 24 months on a linear basis (1/24th of allocation is released and accessible to team every month).
Are there any restrictions on the private sale participants selling their tokens?
Yes, 75% of the private sale tokens are locked for 12-months then they are released on a 12-month vesting schedule. Private sale participants will receive 25% of their tokens when the token launches. They are free to sell these tokens, if they wish to do so. However, we carefully selected strategic partners for the private sale who share our long term vision and most of these tokens have been committed to provide liquidity on TinyMan.
3. The Game
Where can I play Cosmic Champs?
We are building Cosmic Champs to be mobile-first, using the Unity engine to parallelize Android and iOS pipelines. We are also planning for Cosmic Champs to be accessible via two other platforms: 1) web browser; and 2) a high-performance desktop client that is “streamer friendly.” Our priority is the mobile app version of Cosmic Champs but this may change in the future depending on player needs and metrics.
What is the Play to Earn token of Cosmic Champs?
Cosmic Matter (COSM) is the primary play-to-earn token for the Cosmic Champs universe and is earned by winning battles. We will provide stable rewards in COSM to ensure reward certainty. This will be achieved by calculating the number of tokens paid to winners based on a USD value.
COSM will be used for tournament entry fees and most in-game purchases such as upgrading Champs and buying Blueprints. There is an infinite amount of COSM in the cosmos, however most of it is burnt after being spent by players.
Players, Planet owners, and the community treasury will all earn COSM from each battle. Of the two players in a battle, only the winner will receive a payment of COSM. The winning player will receive most of the tokens, the Planet owner will receive a small allocation and the community treasury will receive the remaining tokens.
Why a second token? Why not use COSG for P2E?
We have two tokens because they both serve very different functions in our ecosystem. COSG is a governance token with a fixed supply whereas COSM is the primary P2E reward token with a theoretically infinite supply. COSG is used for governance, to reward token holders through staking, and purchasing NFTs in our marketplace. COSM is used to reward players for engaging with the game, all in-game purchases, and minting new NFTs. This approach is common among P2E games. We allocated 15% of COSG’s supply to P2E rewards because we wanted our players to be involved in the game’s governance.
Will there be presale for COSM?
No, tokens will be released through gameplay. We will not be using COSM to “raise funds” by selling it in a private sale or public pre-sale. A small allocation may be minted for the purpose of providing liquidity on an exchange.
Do I need a wallet to get started earning with Cosmic Champs?
Users can start playing without having to go through the cumbersome steps (e.g., setting up a wallet and buying NFTs) that are typical of blockchain games and act as massive barriers for non-crypto natives.
If a new player decides not to set up and connect a wallet then the Cosmic Champs platform will hold custody of any play-to-earn rewards they accumulate.
When a player connects their wallet, they will be able to claim any previously earned assets and newly earned assets will flow directly to their wallet.
Why a blockchain game?
Blockchain games have several advantages over traditional games:
- Players have permanent ownership and control over their in-game assets (e.g., characters, skins, equipment) which are represented by non-fungible tokens (NFTs);
- Players can freely trade their in-game assets on decentralised marketplaces which allows for peer-to-peer transactions;
- Players can move their in-game assets between accounts so if they start a new account, they can bring their assets with them;
- Players can move their in-game assets between games within the same gaming multiverse;
- They allow for Decentralised Autonomous Organisations (DAOs), which places control in the hands of its users. For example, the network is required to vote on changes to a game’s mechanics.
How is Cosmic Champs better than other P2E games?
Cosmic Champs is a real-time strategy video game that combines elements of tower defence, multiplayer online battle arenas and collectible card games. It seeks to resolve several issues/shortcomings that have hindered other P2E games:
- Mobile first: anyone will be able to download the game from their official mobile app store;
- Fun and exciting real-time gameplay so players don’t need to wait their turn;
- User-friendly — Cosmic Champs provides a frictionless onboarding experience and welcomes all new users (no wallet and no prior crypto knowledge required to get started);
- No NFTs required to play the game so no initial costs to get started;
- Simple and seamless integration with official Algorand wallet;
- Game is designed to be constantly evolving, thus providing improved user engagement and retention;
- Stable payments will be made to players ensuring income certainty despite market fluctuations;
- By using fractional NFTs we can maintain high quality character aesthetics while minting a large number of NFTs to support a growing user base.
Can we get a footage of the game?
Yes, but not at this point in time. The game is still under development so changes are being made to the mechanics and aesthetics. We will reveal game footage when these are finalised so we can present the best version of our product. We did show a working demo of Cosmic Champs during the Algorand and Draper University Blockchain Accelerator program that we participated in late last year. However, this was a closed event, and the footage is not publicly available.
4. NFTs
Where do you buy NFTs?
Players can buy, sell, and trade Cosmic Champs NFTs on a dedicated Cosmic Champs marketplace. When we launch, we will have our own page on an existing marketplace for exclusively trading our NFTs with COSG. Each transaction will incur a small royalty fee that goes into the community treasury to help the Cosmic Champs ecosystem flourish. Our vision is to build our own marketplace so we can simultaneously reduce fees for users and increase the flow of revenue to the community treasury. It’s a win-win!
Will there be NFT giveaways?
Yes, there will be many! We will conduct giveaways whenever we do a major announcement, Twitter space or AMA — please follow our channels and join the Discord to be in the running.
What are the Cosmic Champs NFTs?
There are six types of NFTs in the Cosmic Champs ecosystem: Champs, Planets, Ships, Blueprints, Treasures, and Utilities.
- Champs are the characters used in battle. Each season, a new batch of fighters will be released from all corners of the cosmos. Champs have a range of traits which impact the in-game statistics of a character (e.g., health, damage, range of attack, hit speed and movement speed).
- Planets host the play-to-earn arenas where battles and tournaments are held. Each Planet will have a different appearance but will not contain any unique statistics. In other words, the gameplay experience for users will be the same on each Planet. Owners of Planets will receive an income from the battles that take place in their arenas.
- Ships traverse the ever-expanding Cosmic universe and act as homes and bases of operation for a player’s Champs. The play-to-earn arenas cannot be accessed without a Ship. When a player is in battle their Ship is busily mining Steel Chips (off-chain asset) which they can use to build (mint) a new Ship. To do this, they must acquire enough Steel Chips which they then exchange for an NFT Blueprint. Along with a payment of COSM, an NFT Blueprint can then be used to mint a new Ship.
- NFT Treasures will be awarded to tournament winners and for various other in-game accomplishments. These may enhance a player’s experience in various ways.
- Utilities include magic, instant effects, and buildings which will perform an important role in a player’s battle strategy. Magic/instant effects may teleport a Champ to another part of the arena or rain missiles on the opponent’s base. Buildings may be defensive structures that fire lasers at the opponent’s Champs or be a factory that manufacture Champs that launch into battle every few seconds.
Are NFTs required to play the game?
Cosmic Champs is free-to-play so NFTs are not required to play. Everyone can play and earn without any upfront costs. There are some advantages to owning our NFTs, such as: higher reward rates, ability to mint new NFTs and boosted character statistics. Although, these advantages don’t outweigh earned skill so non-NFT players will be able to beat NFT players if they utilise better strategies.
How do the Champ NFTs work?
Each Champ NFT has up to 9 unique traits. The unique traits differ for each type of Champ. Some traits enhance the in-game statistics of the character, while others are purely aesthetic and/or are reserved for future functionality. Below are examples of traits for Champ NFTs:
- Guild : Rusters
- Strength : Legendary
- Size : Colossus
- Golden Eyes
- Steam-Powered
- Sharpshooter
How do Ships get minted?
When a player enters a play-to-earn arena for battle their Ship will transform into their base. While they are in battle, the base will mine Steel Chips which is a Planet’s natural resource. Steel Chips is an off-chain asset that is used to build (mint) new Ships. When a player accumulates enough Steel Chips, they can swap them for a Blueprint NFT which, along with a payment of COSM, they can use to build a new Ship NFT.
Will planets be available to buy as well?
Yes, we will launch the game with 2 planets and will add more as the number of players increase. There will be no more than 7 planets within the first 2 years. Planet owners will earn income from each battle that takes place in their arena. Some planets will have single owners while others will have hundreds or thousands of owners. Our use of fractional NFTs allows for community owned planets where lots of users each own a small proportion of a planet and receive a share of its income.
Will there be NFT staking?
Yes! We want to add as much value as possible to owning and holding Cosmic Champs’ NFTs. Owners of our NFTs will be able to stake them to earn rewards. We will announce the launch of NFT staking later.
Will there be NFT scholarships?
Owners of Cosmic Champs’ NFTs will be able to loan them to players via our platform. This will allow players to improve their deck and their chances of winning without having to purchase any NFTs. Additionally, it will allow NFT owners to earn an income safely and securely from their unused assets.
When will the NFTs be released?
Each quarter will see the release of a new season of NFTs. The number and types of NFTs minted will differ each season depending on the number of active users in the ecosystem. The Genesis season (Season 1) will contain 1400 NFTs in total. There will be something special about each of these NFTs that will be revealed closer to their release.
Will old NFT’s be useless when new season NFT’s are minted?
Of course not! Every season of NFT’s will introduce new types of characters with different mechanics. Older generation NFTs will remain relevant and, if anything, will have greater scarcity due to the lower issuance of earlier seasons.
What token will be used to buy Cosmic Champs’ NFTs?
We are still working out the details for our dedicated marketplace but you will be able to purchase our NFTs using COSG.
5. Ecosystem
Why Algorand?
We are pioneers of the real-time 3D play-to-earn space on the Algorand blockchain. As such, we are aiming to set a very high standard to ensure a bright play-to-earn future for the entire Algorand ecosystem.
The decision to call Algorand our home planet comes down to our view that Algorand is the most secure, scalable and decentralised blockchain in the world, and the ecosystem best placed to sustainably power the future of blockchain technology.

What does our partnership with Yieldly involve?
We are the first project to use Yieldly’s launchpad, yLaunch. It is not an IDO platform. yLaunch is designed to accelerate our time to market and put us in the best position for success. When our token launches Yieldly will release two staking pools to reward holders of COSG and YLDY: COSG > COSG and YLDY > COSG. They will also distribute some of our NFTs via NFT prize games. While these are essential pieces of infrastructure for Cosmic Champs, yLaunch has provided us with many additional benefits. The most important is that Yieldly opened their network by introducing us to: VCs which helped oversubscribe our private sale; exchanges to arrange future CEX listings; and marketing and PR specialist to help grow our community.
