An important read before playing the Cosmic Champs closed beta game
In crypto, it’s often said that projects are community led. And that’s certainly true when it comes to game development. It’s you, the players, who make the game, and we’re here to dedicate ourselves to building the best mobile game that you will want to play.
The closed beta is a stripped back version of the final game. The purpose of the closed beta is to stress test the Cosmic Champs app. For that reason, we are only giving a limited number of players access to the core functionality. This is so we can test the core game mechanics to make sure they are working reliably before we start adding features on top.
If you add too much functionality, too soon, then you can’t really test the basic mechanics — as you can’t isolate the issues. Makes sense, right? So this version of Cosmic Champs is like an acoustic live version of your favourite pop song.
Because of the tokenisation of web3 games, where the whole community are our backers, the community gets the unique opportunity to be part of and direct blockchain games from a much earlier stage than traditional startups. Releasing an early beta to the players doesn’t usually happen in Triple A games, which is why people get so enthusiastic about web3 game development.
Our theory is that games development is a collaborative process. We have the skills to build the games, in collaboration with our community — you tell us the features you want, and what you think will make the game more fun and rewarding, and we enhance the game to make them even better.
That’s why we’re passionate about getting the Cosmic Champs game out to the community as early as possible. In a short period of time, we’ve put together Triple A quality NFTs, and sophisticated P2E tokenomics on a mobile game, all on a modest budget and a small but experienced team.
We could spend a few extra months getting the game perfect but that would defeat the purpose of involving our community from the ground up, so that you, too, become the developers invested in the success of our game.
So let’s look at the functionality that the closed beta will offer:
- Download the game onto Android mobiles
- Create an account and connect a wallet
- See the Champs in your deck
- Start a battle and match you with players who are online
- Complete a battle, and keep track of gameplay statistics
During the next two weeks, we are just stress testing this basic functionality. If something can go wrong, it probably will — so thank you for being the people to help us through this important time. Please don’t get disheartened or think there’s something wrong with the app if it doesn’t work perfectly every time.
Here’s some of the glitches you might encounter from this early beta:
- The app might hang
- The battle might hang
- The app might fail to match you with another player (either because there’s no one online, or because the backend glitches)
If experiencing the early form of the game like this doesn’t suit you, that’s OK! The open beta, available sometime in October, will have a lot more functionality added and have all the bugs fixed. Join us then.

The future (the very, very, near future)
Now, onto the exciting news! What you see is not what you get! As soon as we’ve stress tested the core functionality, we will quickly roll out the additional game features over the coming weeks that we’ve already planned to implement.

Once this process is complete (we expect the process to take about 2 weeks) we are literally going to go wild adding all the functionality to the game that you can dream of.
