Cosmic Champs Launches New NFT Ship “Hummingbird”
Why owning one Ship NFT is never enough!
The upcoming Round 3 auctions have stirred a buzz with the Cosmic Champs Hummingbird Ship NFT.
Season 1 Cosmic Champs NFTs features 2 ships, Shadowblade, and Hummingbird. Shadowblade launched in the Shuffles that sold out on Algogems in July.
Hummingbird makes its debut this week in exclusive Cosmic Champs Auctions, where we offer select, never seen before NFTs that will take your Cosmic Champs gameplay into the next league.
Ships traverse the ever-expanding Cosmic universe and act as homes and bases of operation for a player’s Champs. The play-to-earn arenas cannot be accessed without a Ship. When a player is in battle their Ship is busily mining Steel Chips (off-chain asset) which they can use to build (mint) a new Ship. To do this, they must acquire enough Steel Chips which they then exchange for an NFT Blueprint. Along with a payment of COSM, an NFT Blueprint can then be used to mint a new Ship.
Owning one Cosmic Champs NFT is never enough, but why do you need multiple Ships? Well, each Ship has a different game play strategy. Depending on the Champs you are playing and your play-and-earn strategy, you will probably want to use different Ships at different times. Check out these cards below.
That’s the card for Shadowblade, and as you can see, the mining rate is low, but the Champ boost is high. So it will make your Champs more powerful and give you a slightly better chance of winning. In a game where the winner takes all, this advantage could be the difference between winning and losing. But if you want to mine steel chips, to make new Ships, then it’s not so helpful. So how is Hummingbird different?
As we can see from Hummingbird’s card, it has a high mining rate and a high play-and-earn rate, but a low Champs boost. It won’t help you in Battles, but it will help you extract more play-and-earn rewards when you win battles than Shadow Blade.
In terms of strategy, the use of a ship depends whether you prefer to try to overpower your opponent with brute force (Shadow Blade) or focus more on maximising your play-and-earn rewards when you win (Hummingbird). Having one of each ship lets a player choose their preferred strategy each time they play. Who doesn’t like having options? Bear in mind, the advantage of having either ship in your deck won’t be so great that players without a ship NFT can’t beat you with superior strategy.
Matty Blanchard (CEO) says “Ships are a great way to give players more control over their in-game strategy and the gameplay characteristics they value most. When we designed the game and the NFTs, we wanted to make sure there was a Ship suitable for every type of player to suit their strategy.”
The Auctions
If you followed Round 1 and 2 Auctions, it’s a good time to note that the Ship auctions next week are going to work a little different. We’re going to make them 24 hours each and have auctions start on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We’ll sell 3 ships each time. Here is the schedule:

How to Participate
Bidding is a straightforward process on Algogems. Any active auction can have a bid placed by signing 2 transactions.
Once the Auctions start, go to https://algogems.io/shops/cosmicChamps/auctions
- Opt-in to the NFT up for auction
- Send your bid to the auction application
- If outbid, your funds are returned automatically.
- If an auction ends with no bids, the NFT is returned to the owner, and the application closes.
- View your active bids from the Pending tab.
- View your active auctions from the Listings tab
- No fees are taken unless an auction ends in a sale.
- No fee is taken for placing bids
Auction Rules:
- Bids must be 10% higher than the previous bid on Algogems.
- If a bid is made in the final 10 minutes of auction time, 10 minutes are added to the time
