Cosmic Champs: The future!
NFT integration, P2E rewards, white paper update, and browsers
As we venture into 2023, we thought it would be a good opportunity to post about the future ahead for Cosmic Champs.
In 2022, we launched our governance token, Cosmic Gold (April), the first season of our NFTs (June), as well as the closed-beta of our mobile 3D real-time strategy game (October).
It’s been a year that was more challenging than many could ever have predicted, and yet also overwhelmingly rewarding. Most of all, we’ve been inspired by the phenomenal community supporting our growth and game development here at Cosmic Champs. We couldn’t have asked for a better foundational community!
The changing market conditions have given us a lot of opportunities for reflection. Regardless of the market’s ups and downs, we’ve been consistently building and will continue building. Out of all the ASAs, Cosmic Gold is still the second top project on Algorand by liquidity. Here’s a preview of what to expect in 2023.
Greater Utility for COSG
Since we published the Cosmic Champs white paper in 2022, we’ve had a lot of feedback that it was one of the leading play-to-earn white papers across all chains at the time. However, the play-to-earn market has gone through a lot of shifts since then.
For COSG to have long-lasting utility it needs to support the whole Cosmic Champs ecosystem — including a portfolio of games, a creator economy, and a marketplace. Our founders, along with feedback from the Cosmic Ambassadors DAO, have crafted a tiered program of rewards for COSG holders — the more you hold the greater the rewards. Some of the rewards include:
- Allowlist spots for future NFT shuffles
- Access to monthly NFT lotteries
- Battle passes
- Monthly in-game boosts
- Guaranteed access to buy planet NFTs

P2E rewards
Play-to-earn rewards have not yet been integrated into the current build of the closed beta but they will be in the coming year. Since the launch of Cosmic Champs, there has been a growing understanding that a more sustainable model is required for P2E than what we saw in 2021 and much of 2022.
Many of the early P2E games were not very fun to play, gameplay outcomes were in large part based on chance which encouraged reward farmers, required large “investments” to start playing, and in some cases offered large rewards to players without fully developed in-game shops where tokens could be used to enhance the gameplay experience.
The Cosmic Champs model is built on a fun gameplay experience where anyone can start playing without spending a single dollar, rewards will be fair but not exorbitant, rewards will flow to genuine players (not reward farmers), and the in-game shop will offer many items for sale that will enhance the gameplay experience.
We’ll soon publish an updated version of the Cosmic Champs white paper that talks about the changes made to Cosmic Champs NFTs and tokens. One of the major changes is that Cosmic Matter (COSM), which was the primary P2E token, will only be launched when there is a large enough player base. Prior to that point, COSG will serve as the P2E token.
NFT integration and Season 2 shuffle
Uncommon NFTs are now integrated into the closed beta game with higher rarities soon to be added. With so many supporters of our innovative 3D in-game NFTs, we want to ensure that your experience of playing with your NFTs is as rewarding as possible.
We are currently adding Rare NFTs to the closed beta, then we will add Epic, and finally Legendary. When all the skins have been added we will integrate NFT traits into the game so they impact Champ stats. We will be very cautious not to make them overpowered otherwise players without NFTs will be at a great disadvantage. Our goal is for a superior strategy to prevail.
We were blown away by how positively the Cosmic Champs Season 1 NFTs were received. Launching at a mere $25 USD, their small number and special benefits such as monthly COSG drops, beta game access, and Season 2 allow list access, meant that they quickly joined the leaderboard for highest value sales for Algorand NFTs and Cosmic Champs remains one of the top selling NFT projects.
We’ve been excited to launch the previews of the Season 2 Champs: Jax, Pix, Cyclops, Shockwave, BFF, and Hawk. We will start dropping the new Champs into the game one by one. First up will be BFF. In the 3rd week of January, the sale of the Season 2 Champs will go live via a shuffle. Here’s all the information about the season 2 NFT sale you’ve been waiting for:
- When: 3rd week of Janurary

- Price: $20 of COSG
- How: Round 1 will be a private shuffle for those on an allow list and round 2 will be a public shuffle for everyone

- holders of season 1 NFTs and the beta pass (commemorative token)
- COSG holders via the holder tier program
- Our allow list from season 1
- Winners of competitions and giveaways

Open beta and official release of game
There’s a bit of work required before we get to open beta. The most important is releasing the iOs version of the game so anyone who wants to access the game can, regardless of their smart device. We will move to open beta sometime in quarter 1 of 2023. We are hopeful it will be in February sometime. The official release of the game is scheduled for quarter 3 of 2023. There are many things we need to add to the game before we get there, these include:
- Add new Champs and Ships
- Fully integrate NFTs
- P2E rewards
- Tournaments
- Sound FX
- Visual FX
- Overhaul user interface (UI)
- In-app store
Ship Mode
We also know that owners of Ships have been patiently waiting for us to add them to the game! We don’t have a date yet but sometime in quarter 2 ships will enhance the stats of Champs. We will also develop a mini-game for ship owners to play with their ships — think a ship race or ship battle. This will be released later in 2023.
Other Platforms
We are excited to share that our mobile game is in the process of being made available on web browsers! This new development will allow players to access the game from any device with a web browser, making it more convenient and accessible than ever before. In addition, the web browser interface will offer a seamless and smooth gaming experience, with no need to download any additional software or updates.
We believe this new feature will greatly enhance the overall player experience and allow even more people to enjoy the game. We can’t wait for players to try it out and see for themselves the benefits of this new web browser interface. We’ll keep you updated!
What is COSG?
Our governance token, Cosmic Gold (COSG), rules the Cosmic Champs metaverse. COSG will be used to earn staking rewards, reward players for using the game (P2E), and buying NFTs. When we transition to a DAO, holders of COSG will steer the ship as they will vote on changes to the game. It will also be used to fuel our creator economy which will reward the community for helping build our metaverse.
The ASA ID for the COSG token is 1065092715. To receive COSG, you’ll need to opt into COSG with your Algorand wallet.
ABOUT COSMIC CHAMPS
Cosmic Champs is a play to earn, tower rush, real time strategy game developed by gaming studio, Mad Shapes. It aims to remove many of the existing barriers of entry for typical P2E games.
