New game features: deep dive
Hey there Champ! We’ve been hard at work over the past few months, implementing numerous updates and enhancing our game. With all these exciting new features, we thought it would be a great idea to put together a write-up. So, relax, grab your favorite drink, and let’s dive in!

⚠️Latest update will reset your progress, and you will need to create a new account. We recommend you completely remove the game from your device and reinstall it to prevent any issues. While this may initially seem like a step back, the development team believes the new features and mechanics will significantly enhance the overall gaming experience so give it a try.
## NFT Boost Stacking
The headline feature of latest update is the introduction of NFT boost stacking, a change that aims to bring more strategic depth to the game. Here’s how it works:
- Ships and Space Keys:
These NFTs retain their existing boost values, and stacking is not yet available for them. Current boosts (overall boost, applies to all your units):
— Leggy Ship: 5%
— Epic Ship: 3%
— Rare Ship: 2%
— Diamond Space Key: 5%
— Gold Space Key: 3%
— Silver Space Key: 2%
— Bronze Space Key: 1% - Champion Boosts:
The update introduces new boost values for Champions:
— Legendary: Increased from 6% to 13%
— Epic: Increased from 4% to 7%
— Rare: Increased from 3% to 4%
— Uncommon: Stays at 2%
— Common and Special: Stays at 1% - These revised boosts mean that Legendary and Epic Champions will provide significantly higher boosts than before. However, the team has noted that these boosts are roughly equivalent to increasing a unit’s level by one, ensuring that the balance of the game remains intact.
- New Mechanics for Boost Stacking
The introduction of boost stacking adds a layer of strategy, allowing players to combine multiple NFTs to enhance their gameplay further. There is, however, a cap on how much you can stack based on the rarity of the NFTs
— Commons stack up to Uncommon boost (2%)
— Uncommons stack up to Rare boost (4%)
— Rares stack up to Epic boost (7%)
— Epics stack up to Legendary boost (13%)
— Legendaries cap at 20% (also anticipated for future Mythic NFTs if they are released) - To reach these caps, players will need 7 NFTs of the same rarity per unit, with the exception of Legendary NFTs, which have a unique scaling mechanism.
- Understanding Incremental Boosts
The stacking system is designed with incremental boosts, meaning that additional NFTs contribute to boost percentages incrementally until a cap is reached. Here’s a breakdown:
— Common/Special: Base boost is 1%, each additional NFT adds 0.1667%, capped at 2%.
— Uncommon: Base boost is 2%, each additional NFT adds 0.334%, capped at 4%.
— Rare: Base boost is 4%, each additional NFT adds 0.5%, capped at 7%.
— Epic: Base boost is 7%, each additional NFT adds 1%, capped at 13%.
— Legendary: Base boost is 13%, with the first additional NFT adding 3% and the second adding 4%, capped at 20%. - It’s important to note that boost increases only apply after reaching a full extra 1% increment. For example, if an extra NFT adds only 0.5%, an additional NFT will be needed to achieve the next full 1% increase. This mechanic requires strategic planning from players who are looking to optimize their boosts.
- Implications for Players and the NFT Market
This update is more than just numbers; it’s about evolving the game and enhancing the ecosystem around it. By allowing for boost stacking, Cosmic Champs is offering a new avenue for player engagement, particularly for those who are invested in the NFT market. - While these changes will provide new opportunities for strategic play, we will also carefully monitor the impact to ensure a fair and balanced experience for all players.
## Play as Guest:
Zero friction is the name of the game! These accounts enable new players to jump right in and enjoy the game without the need to create an account or connect a wallet. Once players decide they love the game — something we believe most will — they can link their email to permanently secure their account, retaining all progress and achievements associated with their guest account. However, it’s important to note that guest accounts are currently not eligible for P2E rewards, so you’ll need to connect your own wallet to start earning.
## Auto-generated custodial wallets for each player:
As part of our initiative to onboard new users into the world of blockchain gaming, we are providing each player with a custodial wallet, similar to how accounts are managed on centralized exchanges like Binance and Coinbase. This feature enables every player to maintain a blockchain footprint, including match history, level-ups, and progression, without needing to understand the underlying technology.
This new capability opens up a wealth of opportunities to enhance and improve the player experience through verifiable blockchain interactions. However, we still encourage players to create their own wallets and connect them to the game to access the full range of game functionalities, including earning mechanics (which we are working to transition to the custodial wallet to eliminate opt-in requirements) and NFT unlocks. Our goal is to educate as much as we entertain, so remember: not your keys, not your wallet — keep your NFTs in your own wallet.
## Card and player progression:
There’s nothing quite like the sense of achievement that comes from dedicating hours to playing and experimenting in the game, resulting in stronger Champs, unlocked features, and enhanced rewards. For the more competitive players, the thrill of racing to the top also adds an exciting dimension. With this new addition, our game has gained an extra layer of depth that is sure to keep you captivated for weeks on end. Here’s how it works:
- Experience shards
We have introduced new virtual currency called experience shards. These shards represent the “experience” your Champs gain while battling in the arena and can be used to level up your units. There are two types of experience shards: Individual champ shards, which are specific to each Champ (e.g., Cybi shards) and can only be used to level up that particular Champ, and universal experience shards, which can be applied to level up any Champ. Most of these shards can be earned through gameplay, but there will also be opportunities to win them as prizes in events and tournaments. Please note that universal shards are highly sought after, and we plan to transition them to the blockchain after the initial testing period, so it’s a good idea to start accumulating them!
- Champ leveling
Once you have collected enough shards to level up your unit, a green arrow will appear on the deck screen to indicate this. Simply click on the unit, spend the required experience shards (if you lack sufficient individual champion shards, you can use universal shards as an alternative), and watch your unit increase in power. The unit’s level is displayed in all relevant sections of the lobby and deck screen, and it is also shown during battles as a small number on the unit’s health bar.
- - Pro Tip: Don’t be discouraged if you find yourself matched against players with significantly higher-level units. Ultimately, having a solid strategy is the key to success in our game. Additionally, we take measures to prevent pairing players who are too far apart in skill and progress levels, so just focus on enjoying the game!
- Player leveling
Each time you upgrade a card, you will also make progress toward increasing your player level. Advancing as a player offers several benefits. It enhances the power of your spaceship in battle (only the main body) and raises the maximum level cap for your champions. This is crucial for maintaining a well-balanced deck and preparing to face stronger opponents. Additionally, leveling up gradually unlocks new Champion Cards and features, which are essential for developing more advanced strategies as you become more familiar with the game. You can track your player level in the top left corner of the lobby screen, and your opponent’s level is displayed above their nickname during battles.
## PVE and Prize bot rework:
We’ve deprecated old prize bots and PVE bots and replaced them with a new more dynamic system that will always try to match you with an opponent that is challenging enough to make it worth your time but not so hard that it would make you want to ragequit 😡. It is also a great way to showcase plethora of NFT skins we have for each champ. So if you see your NFT being used by the bot, please take it as a compliment as your NFT is looking soo good that we wanted to showcase it to everyone playing our game. Each new player will also have to go through few games versus training dummy bot to allow for a 0 penalty, low stress introduction to the game(we still plan to replace this with a proper tutorial at one point…). This is a living system that we expect to modify on few occasions after initial round of feedback and data is gathered.
## Matchmaking rework:
With introduction of levels we’ve gained another parameter (besides the MMR) that we can use in the matchmaking rules. This way you always get paired with optimal opponent for your current perceived skill level and you both can have fun and challenging battle. We’ll observe and periodically modify the parameters if required.

Looking ahead, the team at Cosmic Champs has hinted at potential further adjustments and caps to maintain balance as players progress to higher levels. These changes will be based on ongoing testing and player feedback, underscoring the game’s commitment to a dynamic and responsive development process.

Cosmic Champs is an action-packed PVP strategy game that combines elements from collectible card games, tower defense and online battle arena!
