MWC 2019 Samsung Mobile Business Summit session: Galaxy S10 supports Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cosmochain and Enjin Coin

During its Samsung Mobile Business Summit session at MWC Barcelona 2019 held on February 25th, Samsung Electronics introduced dApps integrated into the Galaxy S10 as well as tokens that it supports. “COSMEE” can be found under the “Block Chain” item on the left side of the screen.

Blockchain features of Samsung Electronics’ newly launched smartphone series Galaxy S10 are slowly unveiled. Samsung Electronics is revealing the cryptocurrency wallet integrated into the Galaxy S10 as well as the types of token and blockchain-based decentralized applications (dApps) that it supports.

During its Samsung Mobile Business Summit session at MWC Barcelona 2019 held on February 25th, Samsung Electronics announced that the Galaxy S10 will include the blockchain-based overseas payment service in addition to the digital wallet (cryptocurrency wallet) app.

Although it was a private session for about 500 pre-invited partners and global customers, it was the first time that Samsung Electronics introduced the blockchain-based functions of the Galaxy S10 in such details. Samsung did not mention any functions related to blockchain at the Galaxy S10 Unpacked event in San Francisco.

According to Samsung Electronics’ announcement on this day, the only dApp partner selected for the Galaxy S10 is COSMEE operated by a Korean blockchain project Cosmochain.

COSMEE is a blockchain-based beauty content sharing dApp. When users upload beauty reviews within the application, they get rewarded with cryptocurrency “COSM” depending on the evaluation of other users. As all activities including reviews and evaluations are recorded on blockchain, a trustworthy reward system can be created. COSMEE successfully completed its three-month pilot service which began last August, with over 300,000 downloads and 70,000 cosmetic review contents. COSMEE’s official version is scheduled to launch within the first half of this year.

Cosmochain CEO Howon Song explained that “the blockchain team of Samsung Electronics Wireless Business Division selected COSMEE as its partner after looking for a widely-used dApp for a long time. After having numerous meetings in order to verify business model and technology during the last six months, COSMEE could be integrated into the Galaxy S10 as its first dApp.”

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics announced that it has selected four ICO projects — Bitcoin, Ethereum, Enjin and Cosmochain — as the initial cryptocurrencies that the Galaxy S10 plans to support. As the Galaxy S10 also provides a feature to add other tokens into its wallet, it is speculated that types of compatible tokens will further increase.
