State of the DApps listing, what comes next?
Answers to… “What is State of the DApps?,” “Why is Cosmochain ranked so high?,” “What does the rank tell us?”
In mid-August, we shared you through Telegram and Twitter about the listing of Cosmochain on the DApp ranking platform “State of the DApps.” Since then, Klaytn’s development process has been completed and the indices & rankings for DApp projects have been updated as well. Cosmochain’s ranking has also risen significantly, even ranking first among all the DApps.
In this post, we’d like to give you more details on this, including the State of the DApps platform introduction, a description of relevant indices, and how the rankings are calculated.
1. What is State of the DApps?
State of the DApps(hereafter ‘SOTD’) is a curated directory of decentralized applications. There are also other similar sites like DappRadar and Dapp.com.
In 2015, SOTD was first created to categorize and showcase Ethereum blockchain based projects for users to easily find blockchain projects in one place. Inclduing the most lately added Klaytn Mainnet, SOTD supports various mainnets such as EOS, Steem, POA, and Loom. Total 2,264 of DApps’ information are collected and displayed through SOTD, and its Monthly Active Users are around 90,000 (source: SimilarWeb).
2. SOTD Indices
The indices SOTD considers include 1) active users, 2) transaction, 3) development activity, and 4) volume.
1) Active users is the number of unique addresses that send transactions to DApp contracts. As for FitsMe, it is the number of unique users whose beauty data are being recorded. However, because State of the Dapps is selectively counting the data created by particular activity of users, the number could be different from actual DAU of FitsMe service.
2) Transaction is the total volume of transaction generated from DApp contract. As each users can create various types of beauty data through app service, there are multiple transactions generated from one unique address. Therefore, transaction volume is always bigger than the number of active users.
3) Dev activity refers to the number of development activity being recorded on project company’s Github. For example, there are development activities like code push, issues, pull requests and etc. Cosmochain is currently operating two separate Github pages, one for blockchain and one for FitsMe service. This is why the app update for FitsMe service is actually happening every week although the development activity on SOTD is shown as zero.
4) Volume is the the amount of mainnet token being sent following each transaction. Because right now there is no features in FitsMe service that utilizes its mainnet token Klay, the volume is calculated as zero.
4. SOTD Ranking Algorithm
Ranking algorithm method SOTD has revealed shows how its ranking is determined by weighting 14 different factors such as active users, transaction, development activity, profile freshness and strength, click-through-rate, as well as the user recommendations and feedback.
More accurate weighting level is not open to the public to prevent manipulation, and the algorithms is updated periodically.
5. The Meaning of Ranking
As soon as Klaytn DApp indices were updated on SOTD in early September, Cosmochain ranked third in global DApp based on the high number of active users and transactions and recently maintained its place 1–2.
We believe that this trend numerically proves that Cosmochain’s FitsMe service is generating beauty data with high quality as well as meaningful user transaction.
Based on these data and users, we will try our best to complete our token model.
