The town of Ayamonte is situated in the area Huelva West coast, at the mouth of the Guadiana river. Isla Canela is a borough in the South of the municipality of Ayamonte, separated from the town by an estuary of about 300 meters width. Here you may experience traditional Spanish village life in an ancient fishing village with the same name. Moreover, the place offers spectacular views to Portugal and beautiful sunsets in the evening.
Apart from its beautiful beaches, the area also provides an extraordinary climate, which made the numbers of visitors rise significantly during the last years. Be one of them! Enjoy the beauty of our Andalucian paradise! Two of the most remarkable beaches are Punta del Moral and Playa de Isla Canela. The first with a length of about 1 km and moderate swell is a rather urban beach with a beach promenade and numerous service facilities. On the other hand, Playa de Isla Canela with its 7km length is the first beach of the municipality, surrounded by nature with wetlands, canals, beach and dunes in the mouth of the Guadiana river.
Also for sports fans Ayamonte offers innumerable possibilities: golf, sailing, kite and wind surfing, cycling, horse riding or Nordic walking. In the end of September, the International Rio Guadiana Canoeing Regatta will be held here.
Apart from its natural beauty, Andalucia and especially Huelva is famous for its rich gastronomy. The most famous dishes are Bacalao a la Portuguesa (Portuguese style cod), rice with chestnuts, poleada de maiz (creamy corn dish), ray in paprika sauce, marinated monkfish and cream cakes — the most delicious deserts you may find in the area! Try also anchovies in vinegar, dogfish in tomato sauce and typical white Huelva shrimps, as well as the rich jabugo ham!
You reach Ayamonte by road, train or plane; for instance after 52 km from the closest airport Faro in Portugal or after 150 km from the Airport of Seville.
