Traditionally SFTP requires manual configuration of an SFTP server, network, the users and authentication means and the SFTP client itself. This can take time, require internal changes and overall be painful.

Traditional SFTP also requires regular maintenance, is often limited to local or network servers, requires multiple jump boxes before you can get files into your desired location and is a tough way to manage your file transfer infrastructure.

Couchdrop’s SFTP is a fully-managed, highly-available SFTP service. You simply create a server, set up user accounts, and associate the server with one or more cloud storage endpoints.

You have the ability to set granular access to locations for user/client with SSH key support, IP address white-listing and an enterprise standard permission set including 2FA. You can create users within your Couchdrop portal, or you can leverage Couchdrop’s API for a programmatic approach.

Couchdrop offers whitelabelling (Bring Your Own Domain) where you can use your own domain name in place of Couchdrop, as well as your own branded upload portal.

Couchdrop enables your customers, partners and internal teams to continue to connect and to make transfers as usual, with no changes to their existing workflows or need to install additional software.

Couchdrop helps your customers and users get files not only via SFTP, but also by supporting;

Setting up your Managed SFTP solution

Configure cloud storage platforms as your backend SFTP storage
  • Go to my.couchdrop.io/manage/storage
  • Select your desired cloud storage solution from here
  • By default, unless you are looking to use multiple storage endpoints, we recommend leaving your mount point as default or ‘/’ (root). You can set specific paths per a user which isolates the user’s root to that specific location.

Additional users for SFTP
  • Go to my.couchdrop.io/manage/users
  • Add user
  • Provide a username of your choice and credentials whether this is an RSA key or password
  • Set permissions (read-only, write-only, read/write)
  • Set the users root directory to their specific folder or path within your bucket. For example for “Smith Construction” you could set the root directory to /smithconstruction. This would then create a folder within your root directory as “smithconstruction”
  • Specify whitelisted IP addresses (optional)
  • Enable Allow SFTP/SCP/Rsync
  • Save Settings

On completion, your user can now connect to sftp.couchdrop.io using the account you created.
