Whats important to MSP’s in a file data migration and why?

Keep it simple — Sometimes complexity is introduced into a migration because there is often an assumption that the destination must mirror exactly the source in all respects. However, experience has taught us to test assumptions (we don’t want to make as ASS of U and ME), if there is an issue that is wrong in the source (wrongly shared files) it will be replicated in the destination and the issue is never corrected. When migrating data it’s a great opportunity to test assumptions and clean up the sharing of data as well as archiving appropriate data. The simpler the data migration the better the final outcome. Movebot allows you to migrate permissions, however, we recommend not doing this and instead apply permissions manually at the destination as each platform has differences in how it implements permissions and sharing and often does not correlate the same 1–1 mapping.
