Today, Countable is launching a complete rebuild on iOS.
Over the past two years, Countable has aimed to do one thing — help you quickly and easily learn what laws Congress is considering, and give you a very fast way to weigh in with your lawmaker.
When it is not easy to absorb and understand the bills and issues being debated, and even tougher to figure out how to weigh in with your elected representative, democracy breaks down. We firmly believe the issue is not that people don’t want to take part in their democracy — the issue is that interested people always were met with barriers. Our goal was to break those barriers by making public debates on policy a lot more user friendly.
We’re continuing that with this new build, today. Let’s take a look at our three biggest changes.
1. The Home Feed
We’ve streamlined our home feed, to simplify presentation of bills and issues that are most important to you. It’s cleaner, and easier to browse.
Just as importantly, we’re now highlighting bills and issues that are trending, and letting you know how many votes each is getting. Now, you won’t have to go far to find the bills and issues that are dominating the news and conversation. At the same time, we’re still using an algorithm that helps moves bills up in your news feed that are likely to interest you, personally.
2. The Bill Page
Our old bill page provided a ton of information, but relied on the user to scroll all the way down to find information that was most important to them.
Now, we’re utilizing a format that is a lot closer to Wikipedia. After reading a summary of a bill, you can open up tabs giving you more information on how a bill works, what its status is, the cost, what arguments are being used for and against it, and read what other Countable users are saying. That takes us to…
3. Improved and More Prominent User Opinions
One of the biggest requests we’ve gotten from users is to make it easier to share, endorse, and browse users’ opinions on bills and issues. We’re taking user opinions to a whole new level.
First and foremost, we’re moving those way up on a bill page. User opinions will appear right below a bill summary. Previously, you would have to tap a user’s icon to see their opinion. Now, those opinions are shown more prominently.
Not only that, but your own opinion on any bill will be presented in a sharp-looking opinion page, specific to you, that you can now more easily share on social media. We wanted to make sharing your opinion more worthwhile, and hope we succeeded!
If you’re already using Countable, we think you’re going to love how much easier and quicker it is to learn about issues of importance to you, and be heard by your lawmakers. If you’re not on Countable, there is no better time to get on board, and use the hottest free news app in the App Store!
Check it out, and let us know what you think!
