Ah, the 90s, a time when slasher films became more meta and the world was safe from the horror of frosted tips. In the days of straightforward killers like Michael Myers and Jason Vorhees, all anyone needed was a scream queen, gratuitous nudity, and lots of corn syrup.

But, times were changing, and with it came a period where Hollywood took a step back and looked at the tropes that built a genre. With that, we got films such as ‘Scream’ and ‘Bride of Chucky’. That didn’t mean we as the viewer couldn’t find nuggets of a bygone age, no.

One of those nuggets swirling about in the stream is the 1996 film ‘The Dentist’, directed by Brian Yuzna. It’s such a simple film, but that doesn’t make it bad. Cozier, I’d say. A film you could put on during a thunderstorm and relax too. Unless you don’t like mouth stuff, the horror kind not the, well, never mind.

Anyway, the film follows Dr. Alan Feinstone as he tries to juggle the responsibilities of being a good husband and dentist. Unfortunately, this balance crashes down when he finds his wife having an affair. After that, the good doctor slowly finds himself…
