Be Your Own Hero
Stop asking girls to play supporting roles in life and teach them to be the main character
I can’t believe cheerleaders are still a thing.
We got rid of the Washington Redskins name, as well as the Cleveland Indians, Aunt Jemima, and Uncle Ben, but we still find it reasonable to have scantily-clad women on the sidelines of sporting events — as eye candy?
They’re not leading cheers. No one is paying any attention to them. This isn’t a step team. It’s tits and ass with a team logo. I find nothing redeeming about it, and I love both tits and asses. It’s demeaning and lacks class and creativity.
You might argue that modern collegiate level cheerleading is closer to dance or gymnastics, which at a competitive level is certainly true. But in pro sports, that is hardly the case, and outside of competitive teams, it’s not the case in college or high school either. If you want to have a sport that combines dance and gymnastics, call it something else. It’s not cheerleading.
What’s worse is that until you get to that level, you’re taught that being pretty and standing on the sidelines is a worthwhile pursuit. I don’t want my granddaughters to be cheerleaders for boys’ athletics. I’d rather them play a sport or do something…
