Everyone has to start somewhere, but why wasting time searching for everything yourself? In this article, I share with you all the resources I wish I had known at the beginning of my dataviz journey.

Knowing the right resources is crucial for learning fast and effectively. The one thing I learned the hard way is that you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Just surround yourself with good work, and creativity will come.

So what is a good approach? First, start with getting some inspiration, then start practice, and only then enrich your practice with some theory.

The practice part is crucial

I once read that Jerry Uelsmann, a famous photographer, during one of his seminars at the University of Florida, split his class into two groups — students from the first one were judged only by the number of photographs they took, and students from the second one base on the quality of single photo they presented. Interestingly, it turned out that all the best photos were created by the people from the first group. And it was because they just tried the idea out instead of thinking about how to do the perfect photo.
