Drunk Woman Channels Jimi Hendrix, but Nobody Seems to Notice

Ingrid Andress was trashed for singing the national anthem while drunk, but her rendition was a timely description of the national moment.

In a year full of echoes, it’s understandable that few seemed to notice how country singer Ingrid Andress channeled Jimi Hendrix when she sang the national anthem at this summer’s Home Run Derby.

With echoes of past assassination attempts, election interference, and Olympic upsets, it’s no wonder the country singer has faded into the background.

But let’s not forget that Ingrid Andress was universally trashed after that performance. Some even called it the worst rendition of the “Star Spangled Banner” ever. Rattled by the criticism, she admitted to being drunk that night and announced she was heading to rehab.

Good for her! But don’t let her get away before noting that there was a lot going on during her anthem than even she realized.

It’s too bad Andress didn’t step back from all the criticism —
