Five Iranian Female Directors Everyone Should Know

Iranian female directors face the same issue that many other women around the world experience in the cinema industry: male domination. Although they have encountered censors and other restrictions that every director faces in Iran, they have been able to play their role and become influential in the industry in the last 40 years. Some directors have participated in international film festivals as representatives of Iran’s cinema or directed best-seller movies in the history of Iran’s cinema. Some of them depict an image of Iranian youth through their movies, others represent Iran’s independent cinema, and some represent Iran’s ideologic cinema in their films.

This report will help international audiences to become familiar with five top Iranian female directors and their points of view.
