When you hear some photographers talk about their style, you’d feel like checking with the trademark office to see if they’ve registered it.

That’s how much they own this style. Nothing wrong with that, so long as it helps them with their work. What about you? Do you have a style of shooting or editing?

What’s a photography style anyway?

A style is just how a photographer does their thing. Some have a shooting style where they love getting up close with subjects during shots.

Like a colleague, they’d often go for a prime lens of about 50mm or closer to get them in the action.

Others prefer a more hands-off style of shooting, standing back and bringing subjects closer with a zoom lens.

Other photographers have an editing style in which they love their images warm, cold, or with a slightly distinct tint. Of course, you can increase or decrease the style you infuse into a project.

Making the case for owning a style

A style helps you streamline your workflow and avoid many decision-making delays that could slow you down.
