July — Writing on the Body

As a new month dawns, I find my thoughts converging upon a similar theme. Influenced by my own continuing physical challenges, my birthday looming at the end of July, and the book I chose for this month’s Counter Arts Book Club read — ‘My Body’, a collection of essays along a theme, written by model and actress Emily Ratajkowski — my ‘theme’ is, broadly speaking, ‘bodies’. More specifically, human bodies, in all their wonderful, various, forms and functions (or dysfunctions).

Therefore, along with all of the other wonderful subjects you write about for Counter Arts, I’d point you towards a specific focus on ‘Bodies’ for our prompt for July. Of course, I’m aware that some people dislike prompts, or just don’t feel the need for them. That’s absolutely fine! And I possibly won’t be doing this every month, going forward. But if you do find some inspiration from prompts, I hope this one gives you plenty to get your mental teeth into.

It’s a good, wide, theme. I don’t like to restrict your creative juices!

Some ideas to think about might include:

  • Health (or lack of it, including mental health)
  • Birth/life/growth/death
  • Cultural stereotyping/expectation
  • Art/sculpture
