(MS) Discipline

Within my creative workspace (The Herb), I position each of my collages in a location for the best line of sight; allowing me to connect with each piece’s unique meaning. The collage shared above, called Discipline, is positioned to the right of my door as I exit.

Although I regularly enter The Herb filled with hope and optimism, I sometimes leave the workspace with a shallow heart. As I walk out of the room, I see this collage and immediately am reminded that no matter the hardship — I must keep coming back; I must be disciplined.

Each image used within Discipline is significant, but I am moved most by the wisdom shared by Ira Glass; the image directly in the center. It was through this advice that I decided to call this collage Discipline.

No matter my hardship, how far behind, or inadequate I feel about my progress or work — I am reminded that through my discipline great achievements will be made.

By sharing this collage and making this post, I am hoping to convey to you the importance of discipline. We each have gifts that need to be expressed. However, those gifts will never become fruitful or shared if we do not practice discipline.

Your gifts are important. We each need to learn from you as well as you learning from us. If you struggle, keep at it — the achievements you seek are just ahead; stay disciplined. Do not seek motivation; have motivation find you.

Hey my friends!

I am starting another art project. This one is focusing on artists of all kinds where I interview them. I plan to make a series of these interviews and to call them collectively Dreaming While Awake. The point of these interviews is to better understand the artist’s focus, discipline methods, hopes, dreams, projects, and what they are moving towards.
